Did I miss the attendance thread?

Unread post by bh2oson » Sat Sep 29, 2012 6:56 am

I did not see one for today's game.

Just about to head up from Huntersville and it is raining. My guess would be low this week.

Thanks for bringing up this thread. I have been unable to spend more than five minutes at a time online over the last couple of days, much less my regular computer with a fitting keypad. One thing I will pass along is that all seats are sold, leaving only grass seating for sale. Seated capacity is 24,050. There won't be a great walkup crowd with the weather forecast, but some grass seats have already been sold, and anyone who goes to the ticket window will be sold a grass seat...my guess is 26,349 (Galloway, W. Va.).

Announced attendance will be slightly more than stadium capacity, actual attendance will be somewhere around 18,000.

I didn't hear the attendance announced. I can tell you that tailgating was sparse around us where there are usually no empties. While ticket sales were equivalent to Montana ticket sales according to some of the Yosef staff, I'd guess we didn't even have 20,000 bodies in the seats.

Attendance over the past year and a half seems to be on the down swing overall. I know there are a few exceptions, like Montana, however there seems to be a bunch of seats and parking places unfilled every week.

The atmosphere today honestly, and I don't care if I get labeled a complainer, sucked. The past 2 seasons minus the GSU game last year and Montana have been quiet, and frankly dull. I realize I am bias, because I get out and go to SEC games and see big time atmospheres. I used to think App was close, but I am starting to think our fan base is jumping off the bandwagon.

Attendance was a little over 27,000. The crowd was good in the 1st quarter, but it went dead with the team after getting up 28-0.

I know that since moving to the 110 per some of your suggestions, it's always a great atmosphere! If we could just get the rest of the stadium to have as much fun The Rock would always be Rockin! I love my new seats...thanks to all who recommended the move!

I saw where the announced attendance for the game down the street (Wake and Duke) was around 1K more than KBS. I also saw that Carolina and Idaho drew 32K.

Given the weak opponent, rainy weather, and blowout result, I am not surprised nor disappointed with the crowd atmosphere. We will have a better atmosphere for Elon and Wofford.

I like it in section 110 too, been there for several years and enjoy the fellow App Fans there. I thought 110 was pretty quiet on Saturday compared to most games, but it still seemded louder than other sections. I hope it gets back to normal at The Rock for the last 3 home games!

Hopefully a better team entrance also. I haven't been impressed this year, used to it now? I don't think I like the video, no Sean Saturday that I saw, maybe I'm just old and the only thing I can complain about on Sat was rain and entrance.

The usual Sean Connery welcome was there. It did seem like the entrance was less than enthusiastic. Perhaps that was just the rain and everything just seeming a little "blah". I'm hoping for a classic October day for this week's game .... please.

Remember when everybody was supposed to jump off the bandwagon after we lost in 2008? Didn't happen. After AE left? Didn't happen. After Nova and Maine? Nope. Citadel? 27K showed up...

Your perception is a combination of A. Becoming accustomed to the great atmosphere and B. Seeing other schools for comparison.

The fact of the matter is we can never live up to a Tennessee, Georgia or Alabama game (and if you think so, you're fooling yourself.) What we can do is create an atmosphere that rivals the best in our division and the best in our state because, let's be honest, NC isn't exactly full of FBS football powerhouses. That's what makes Appalachian garner nearly 30K a week through the turnstyles despite loads of both FCS and FBS teams in-state.

And, while it's easy to say the ASU crowd has lost its luster over the years, the fact is we bring in larger crowds on average now than we ever have in program history. It's not the crowd, it's your perception of the crowd. In 2005, it was cool to see a packed house of 20K yelling their hearts out for ASU because it was uncharted territory for the program. Now, those gameday traditions are practiced and expected regularly at games, and 25K is the norm for football games.
