The post game interview was an anomaly. Don't get me wrong, he's tremendously cocky and a loudmouth. However, I'd bet money that he's one of the top fifteen or twenty smartest guys in the NFL. Extremely well spoken, and his education speaks for itself.

Well my answer to Mr. Dean is that he is a big phony. If you really want to show me something Mr. Dean you need to start a policy that says if you can't get in as a student you can't play here. Then there is absolutely no reason for made up classes. But then again if you did that all athletes would really be student athletes and that just would not work would it? You would be showing the athletes that have worked hard and done the right thing that you value their hard work. That would be just too high a price to pay now wouldn't it?

I only wish I could give multiple rep points for that post. :!:

What makes it even funnier is that he was a communications major.

Richard Sherman did graduate with a 3.9 from Stanford and may have even graduated early. So he was doing something right, unless of course, he was given grades.
You certainly couldn't tell that from his thuggish diatribe.

You ought to listen to video and audio of Crabtree and Sherman's exchange pre-interview before you judge the guy.

Anyway, isn't it hilarious that the Holes would try and use the Sherman interview to distract from their spotlight? Desperation.

If you listen to him speak beyond his post game tirade you find him to be a very thoughtful and articulate individual. I dare say his academic credentials far exceed many of the so-called student-athletes from the UNC study.

He is one of the smartest, most articulate players in the league when he's not being interviewed just seconds after one of the biggest plays of his career and after a week of smack talk and a game of chippyness.

He didn't use foul language. His tone was intense to say the least and he was boastful, saying he was the best corner in the league (he's probably right), but that's about it. I don't think one emotionally charged interview can characterize him as a "thug."

I didn't say he was a thug, rather he emitted a "thuggish diatribe."

I suppose then, "No equal" is thuggish. I don't recall him suggesting that laws be broken or property destroyed or harm to befall anyone. He was over the top and I think on reflection he came to realize that he probably went too far. But, as someone else pointed out, there was some context to his behavior. While I wouldn't endorse him to do so in the future, I don't think it fair to proclaim him to be a thug or thuggish.

It never occurred to me that No Equal was thuggish. I thought it was egotistical and never bought any thing that used that slogan.
Besides, it's a matter of extremes like professional wrestling used to have a monopoly on. Now they pale in comparison to the NFL and the NBA. At least most people seem to view professional wrestling as entertainment performed by steroid monsters rather than being an actual sport.

Agreed hapapp - personally I am one who hates trash talking but in today's world it's like saying I hate mobile phones --- he made an absolute great play - probably the biggest play in his career and he got carried away --- unfortunately we have seen the word "thug" used on here to describe our athletes - in some cases (arrests, etc.) I guess it is appropriate but I do remember questioning some fans who called a player a thug with the response - "What law did he break, who did he beat up in the alley, when did he assault a female?" - "Oh never, so then you just don't like the way he talks or acts during the game" ---

I have no idea what he is. I never really heard of him till now. Stopped following the pro game a few years ago. I just think it is funny he was a communications major.

Does anyone remember the interview of Derrick Black after the Miracle on the Mountain? - we have watched many, many times and laugh every time - he was so excited - I still don't know what he said :D

He is a thug the same way as Joe Namath was a thug for predicting the outcome of the Super Bowl with the “I guarantee you” remark or the other trash talk that went on that week. He's a thug in the same way that John McEnroe was everytime he stepped on the court or when Tony Stewart (or any other driver) calls someone and A**hole or gets in a fight.

Now we don't call them thug's because they don't have certain "thug" qualities (feel free to take a guess what the main one would be). Like he said, thug is only used to describe a certain group of people any more.

If I may step aside from the current discussion at hand...

When the subject of post game interviews and the intellect that is portrayed by a college player is brought up, I can't help but always think of the infamous Derrick Black SportsSouth interview after Josh Jeffries "rolled out on'em"

What a great afternoon in God's Country!

aaaaaaaand Michael Jordan speaks fluent Portuguese, right?

Give it a rest, man. It might be a good idea to run along to a UNC fan forum -- for your blood pressure's sake.
