Re: Devonte Graham
No, because he didn't enroll for the 2013-2014 academic year. That's what put him in violation of the NLI he and his parents signed. Capel's future is inconsequential to Graham unless, in the unlikely situation that re-signs with ASU and ends up playing for a new HC. That re-signing simply isn't happenin'.sonsofyosef wrote:Wouldn't firing Capel instantly free Devonte?
'Graham, btw, is tearin' it up at Brewster, but Brewster's no longer an item in the national preps poll. He's still doing well against excellent competition. He'll eventually be on a power conference roster somewhere. It remains to be seen if he'll see the in-game playing floor much.

Smith's twitter also states dtae has received another offer from an ACC SCHOOL, he does not say which one. Wonder why 123 does not post this information?asu66 wrote:No, because he didn't enroll for the 2013-2014 academic year. That's what put him in violation of the NLI he and his parents signed. I thought as long as he was NLIed to APP no other school could talk to him? If Smith is right, would this not be a violation? And if so, why would he allow it and tweet about it?

Re: Devonte Graham
As some above have said it wouldn't, but the AD could give a release after he was gone as a closing of the book on the previous staff or we could wait for the next coach to do it so that he has some positive press to start with.sonsofyosef wrote:Wouldn't firing Capel instantly free Devonte?

Re: Devonte Graham
The truly sad segment to this Soap Opera is that there is a lesson for this young man to learn and he is not getting the proper guidance from those around him to learn the lesson. He and his parents signed a binding contract to the university and hold no accountability to themselves to honor said contract. If he had a change of heart then there is a correct way to go about voiding the contract. The adults in this situation, parents, coaches, advisors, etc should be mature enough to understand how to handle this. Whatever happnes to this kid, he needs to remove the cancers around him because if he turns out to be one of the lucky few to make it the NBA, this group will bleed him dry.

Re: Devonte Graham
No clue about 123 but I'm plenty ready for him to go far away. After looking at the Brewster site and Smith's Twitter account, he's a mighty, mighty self-assured character. Rules are just small obstacles for him.huskie3 wrote:Smith's twitter also states dtae has received another offer from an ACC SCHOOL, he does not say which one. As for the offers, I suppose coaches who have Graham on the "up-close" radar screen could attend his games and make offers through his coach or through his parents w/o actually speaking with him. In Clinton-speak, I guess it depends on what the word "contact" means.

Re: Devonte Graham
But...but..but..if we weren't moving to the Belt and staying in the SoCon he would be here right now playing.
He and his group didn't have much credibility or a leg to stand on before this was put forth. They lost what little they did have when this was put out there. This one statement was not just a wheelbarrow but a tri-axle dump truck load of crap. I too wish he would go away but if Capel isn't going to save his job with him then he's going to leave as much of a black eye as he can when he goes.

Re: Devonte Graham
No need to rehash this stuff. Devonte got played by some pretty bad advisors and anyone who knows anything about what goes on behind the scenes is secretly pleased to see this happen to them. I've been following this and 123 is a Raleigh "friend" of the advisors and Graham family. I find "him" comical.

Asked if there is any chance Graham might still consider playing for Appalachian State to avoid sitting out a year, Smith responded, "only ... if there was a change in coaching staff at the end of the year."

Re: Devonte Graham
With that statement I would make sure it was absolutely impossible for him to ever play one second of BB at ASU. People MUCH more important than him make the coaching decisions.app123 wrote:http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/ncaab-the ... ncaab.html

Re: Devonte Graham
Ten high-major programs have offered Graham scholarships even though they're unable to speak with him, but Smith is hesitant to publicly reveal them out of fear Appalachian State will accuse them of tampering. Among the schools Smith has previously mentioned to Yahoo Sports and other outlets are Memphis, Florida State, Virginia, Creighton and Butler
I'm confused, how does he know that they have offered him scholarships if he hasn't "talked" them? If they have talked to his parents wouldn't that be a violation? If it was one of his coaches or anyone that was considered a "supporter" of one of the schools it could be a violation. Or is he talking about some random person with no connection with any school that just happened to talk with him.
Some is breaking rules or he's making crap up, either way it makes App less of a bad guy.

Re: Devonte Graham
I'd rather keep Capel than see Graham don the black and gold. I find it hilarious that his coach changed his position from "not a chance in hell" to "only... if there's a coaching change". I think he realizes that we're serious now and don't take our binding contracts lightly. Good riddance to both of these clowns, bring on Flomo!

Re: Devonte Graham
He's been saying this all along. The schools are approaching him because they can't have direct contact with Davonte. If he's telling him every offer that comes in though, I really don't see the difference.Maddog1956 wrote:Ten high-major programs have offered Graham scholarships even though they're unable to speak with him, but Smith is hesitant to publicly reveal them out of fear Appalachian State will accuse them of tampering. Re: Devonte Graham
I guess what I'm saying is that while the ban is in place other schools have to cease "all" recruiting. I don't see how telling his coach that they are offering him a scholarship isn't recruiting. At this point his coach would be very close to be acting as his agent.Appftw wrote:He's been saying this all along. That's nice for Devonte. We are over him. We got bigger issues to deal with basketball.
