JJ under center

Unread post by Deano » Sun Sep 30, 2012 11:38 am

Just wondering if anyone else noticed the play yesterday where JJ got under center received the snap rolled out and threw the ball to the tight end? That's the first time I've seen them do that this. I know many of us had been calling for a play like that. I thought it was refreshing.

YES!!! We all looked at each other with that "Did you see what I saw?!?!?!" kind of look on our faces. I'm glad to know that's been added and hope we'll see it again at the appropriate time (3rd and 1, perhaps?).

Well, I don't think 3rd & 1 is where that play will work for us. When I saw it, I was looking for the ball to be snapped back, and I suppose Coastal was looking for the same thing.

I think this play works as a mis-direction play for a spread option team; sort of like the wild-cat. I think it will work best in 2nd and 5 or so, or 3rd & 3 or 4. Straight up the middle is just not going to work for us.

Likewise, I don't like going under center when we are backed up in our own endzone either.

Call me a contrarian.

With our team, you're right. The O-line has been opening more holes for Miller, and Miller's getting better at finding those holes, too. I still don't see Miller being big enough to muscle out a couple of yards straight up the middle. I was just glad to see a snap from under center. It's the difference between an ice cream shop that only sells vanilla and one that has all the toppings. Gotta love the different looks.

Being under center in short yardage situations makes good sense, especially having Chisolm back and with the positive development of Frazier. I also enjoyed the shovel passes and the "double" option play off of the shovel pass!!!

Loved seeing the playbook opened up against Coastal. Hopefully the offensive line is growing up fast as it appears the last 2 games. Loved the "double pitch" and misdirection plays. Also loved Frazier looking for a safety to run over (and finding him) on his TD run in the 4th quarter.

We also huddled before going under center. We haven't seen either of those since 2003!

I think that all the RB's are getting a better picture of "how" to run the football....None of them have had many "good" reps since coming to ASU....This group has worried me from the start! I am excited but not yet convinced.
