For once it would be refreshing to hear him take some responsibility for the team's performance. Capel has spent tons of money, energy and effort recruiting what he tells us are D-I players, yet for the second year in a row it looks like our MVP is a walk on.567app wrote:Not sure where you guys get that we blew the 4 point lead with 90 seconds left. Spagnolo gave us the 74-70 lead with 3 minutes left in OT.
What do you want Capel to say? Do you want him to throw players under the bus again, so you can bash him then too? They did fight/play hard. I understand he says this a lot, but today it was actually true. No matter what he says, some are going to have something negative to say about it.
Wish we could have came away with that one. I wish Spagnolo had more eligibility, or at least I wish we had more guys with his fight. I got to speak with him right before the season started and I thought he was going to do good things for us, but never imagined he would play at the level he is now. It hurts leaving 12 points at the free throw line. You can't do that on the road in a tight game. Big contributions from a number of guys in short order.

Good to see we still got one guy desperately still defending Capel.

Re: MBB: ASU's last SoCon visit to the 'Whee
Who cares if the MVP started out as a walk-on? Do we only want "highly regarded" recruits, regardless of how they turn out? Could anyone really watch Healy last year and Spagnolo during the last half-dozen games and crack on them about "only being walk-ons"? My God, what a crock!!!
I don't support Capel. I think he's gone and needs to be, but dang, I don't see trashing the guys that play their hearts out AND turn out to be very productive. The record is what it is, but there are some decent players on this team and there are some young men that, when given a chance, will fight to the end to prove themselves.
Not celebrating a victory, but good game to Spagnolo and Toney and the other guys that played well.

The players and coaches are representing ASU. I will support them as well especially when the effort is there. Don't get me wrong - I'll be glad when this season is over and a coaching change is made. I just don't see the point in anxiously trashing coach and players after every game.

Of course, he was a D1 scholarship athlete at Radford before transferring to App State.

I agree! I have to admit I'm not that current on it, but picking up your best player from the SRC makes me wonder what he did recruiting. This isn't his first year and if he's still getting his best player from the SRC, what the Hello. I mean the "story" is a bit of great Americana, but it shouldn't have to be that way. Great catch "K"!Kgfish wrote:

I e-mailed DJ during the first few minutes of the game. He was unaware that the game wasn't going down the network. He thanked me for the "heads-up."Dmanuhone wrote:any ideas why no radio coverage? When is the last time that happened?
I called WKBC-FM around 2:15 PM to learn what happened. The FM programming was running on automation at the time the game should have been in progress. I had to leave a call-back message. The Program Director called me back about 5:40 PM and said they had programmed their rack gear for the "usual and customary" 6:15 pre-game broadcast. She implied that the game was originally set for a night game and that the station was not notified of the tip-off time change. I can't verify if there was a time change or not. It's clear that someone, somewhere just made a mistake. She was very nice and apologetic and said that everything was "all set" for the 7 PM Tuesday night "Mountaineer Talk" program and the 6:15 PM Thursday night pre-game show before the tip-off with Samford.
I was very careful to thank her for WKBC's management contributions to ASU and their continuous support of our football and basketball networks. We'd be in a mess without Wilkes Broadcasting Corp. and WKBC-FM.

I'm not "desperately defending" Capel at all. He has coached his way out, and he will be in a month. I just thought today's was the truth, no matter how many times he has said it in the past.Seattleapp wrote:Good to see we still got one guy desperately still defending Capel.
Re: MBB: ASU's last SoCon visit to the 'Whee
I agree there. It would be nice for him to take responsibility. Wasn't trying to come off as defending Capel, just thought today's comments were true no matter how many times he's repeated it. As I mentioned to Seattleapp, he's coached his way out.Kgfish wrote:For once it would be refreshing to hear him take some responsibility for the team's performance. I just went back to the quick facts put out with the original schedule and indeed, the game was originally set for a 7 pm tip.asu66 wrote:I e-mailed DJ during the first few minutes of the game. When Western released their schedule on October 8th, the game was still 7 pm.
The App St yearbook was put out on November 1st. Still 7 pm.
On the SoCon's weekly releases, the first one on November 5th has the game at 2 pm.
No press release about a time change in that period.

He was not offered a scholarship by App out of high school, nor was he recruited or offered a scholarship to join the ASU program after leaving Radford. He is by every definition, a walk on.hapapp wrote:Kgfish wrote:For once it would be refreshing to hear him take some responsibility for the team's performance. I understand he is a walk on at App State. I wasn't suggesting otherwise. I was just pointing out though that he wasn't just some guy in the Rec program. He was a D1 bball player elsewhere.Kgfish wrote:He was not offered a scholarship by App out of high school, nor was he recruited or offered a scholarship to join the ASU program after leaving Radford. Re: MBB: ASU's last SoCon visit to the 'Whee
I'm just a little surprised that with Spagnolo's dad being a Professor at App, Capel didn't even know "he was on campus". That just really makes me question his recruiting effort.hapapp wrote: I understand he is a walk on at App State. I wasn't suggesting otherwise.
