This week's homecoming match-up will pit the best WR in the FCS, Aaron Mellette, against a top 5 FCS CB in Demetrius McCray. According to nfldraftscout.com, Mellette is ranked the #9 (of 361) WR for the 2013 draft while McCray ranks #33 (of 229) amongst CB's. With Leon all but eliminated from the playoffs, unless they run the table, this will be Mellette's last chance to show out against a CB with next level potential. On the flipside, McCray needs to have a good game against a top 10 prospect to improve his stock. If he can contain Mellette (easier said than done) and hold down Samford's Pope, he could shoot up the board a bit and become a late rounder.

Re: McCray v Mellette
I saw the first half on the Elon - Wofford game last Saturday - Wofford's CB #3 (sorry I can't remember his name) did a good job on Mallette and he still caught like 13 and had several drops ----
Wilson is a good QB - Coach Moore said last year he was the best we played (I'm sure Logan Thomas wasn't included) and he will throw to Mallette as much as possible - McCray won't be able to stop that - the key in my opinion is to give McCray help deep and let him try to keep Mallette in front of him but tight on him - Mallette beating us deep is going to cause some problems for us because like Quick, he will take it to the house --- Let's go #10 !!!

I SO hope we put 55 on Eloan Saturday like we did vs the Beach Chickens. If so, I won't care how many receptions Mellette gets.

Re: McCray v Mellette
App will have to keep a safety over the top on Mellette most of the time to cover the deep routes. The key will be getting a pass rush on Wilson as he has proven he can hit receivers given time and will throw it up for grabs under pressure. Don't have to sack him, just keep him from sitting in the pocket. McCray will do his job but will need help from time to time as Mellette is really, really good.

Re: McCray v Mellette
I don't think Mellette will have a big day simply becouse he won't get the opportunity. Elon's defensive line is horribe, and averages less than 240 lbs on the front seven. We are just going to run the ball down their throats, eat up alot of the clock, and keep Mellette off the field. My biggest concern is when Elon has the ball, they target Blalock, he better bring his "A game" becouse they are coming after him.

Mention on SportsNetwork as well, bottom of this Rice watch list article:
http://www.sportsnetwork.com/merge/tsnf ... id=4533914
"Southern: In a terrific individual matchup, Appalachian State will have cornerback and Buck Buchanan Award nominee Demetrius McCray shadowing Elon wide receiver and Walter Payton Award nominee Aaron Mellette. Last year, Mellette had 14 receptions for 236 yards and one touchdown, while McCray had a career-high 11 tackles, one interception and two pass breakups. Wonder if they saved any plays for their teammates ... The crossroads game of the week is The Citadel (3-2) at Samford (4-1). Both teams are 2-1 in the SoCon, but coming off conference losses."
In the "Picks" section, he picks us to win, but also Samford to beat El Cit.
