Re: GSU Series
4-2 lead in bot 7th with 2 outs then poor management of the bullpen rears its ugly head once agian. This is getting old very quickly. Gave Jones a pass last year and chalked it up to it being his 1st season as head coach.... Now it simply boils down to him not learning from his mistakes. Our team is much better than the our record shows.

Re: GSU Series
Jones probably left Nunn in 1 batter too long but other than that it is hard to fault him. He changed up our relief pit thing and use Joyce who has been OK, and then Mason who has been very good. Thurber and Whaley have had their issues so I like that Billy changed it up. At some point the guys have to get outs. He only has so many options to go to. Our starters continue to pitch well, and the bats have finally started to wake up. Winning at GSU is never easy.AppDawg wrote:4-2 lead in bot 7th with 2 outs then poor management of the bullpen rears its ugly head once agian. This is getting old very quickly. Re: GSU Series
Hindsight 20/20 I would have pulled Nunn after the walk and wild pitch in te 7th. Like the Joyce/Mason call in the 7th (not timing) but would have put thurber in to start the 8th. He has generally been good for an inning, its that 2nd full inning he goes out for where he has run into trouble - unfortunately that has been the 9th. Jones needs to find a spot/situations where these pitchers in the pen can mentally expect to get the call rather than what appears to be a haphazard selection. For instance x gets 7th, x 8th, and Whaley the 9th. None of this carry over inning mess. It kills the mojo in close games.JTApps1 wrote:Jones probably left Nunn in 1 batter too long but other than that it is hard to fault him. Re: GSU Series
Apps survive 9th inning error to beat Ga So. 3 to 2. Pitching was great today. Long ball twice for our runs.

Diamond Apps are up 5-2 in the top of the 7th. Stroup and Leach both have 2 run bombs and Pierson has the other RBI. Let's finish this one and take the series boys!

I've had it with Billy "One-Batter-too-Late" Jones. He's going to cost us another game the same damn way. You can set your watch by it.

Re: GSU Series
9-7 now still one out. Unreal.
We will likely go 1-2 in a series we should have at least won if not swept. The excuse for this weekend is not the hard schedule. These guys instead of finding ways to win, they are finding ways to lose. They have cracked under pressure. I love this team but the managing style has been mind-boggling.

Re: GSU Series
100% agree! Why send Springs back out for the 8th when he already had 113 pitches through 7? At this rate even if we find our groove late in the season we aren't going to have any arms to carry us through the conference tourney. Nothing frustrates me more than not learning from your mistakes. This is unreal. As a friend of mine said, Jones is not putting our bullpen in position to succeed. Unfreaking real!Gonzo wrote:I've had it with Billy "One-Batter-too-Late" Jones. He's going to cost us another game the same damn way. You can set your watch by it.
No lead iof ours is safe with this team once we get into the 8th inning, so long as Jones is calling the shots. The way the bullpen has been managed this year, we have created a situation where everytime they climb the mound they are pressing. A bunch of headcases, they need some positives and that starts with proper bullpen management by the coaching staff.

Re: GSU Series
Even if he left Springs in for 1 batter too long it's hard to say that decision is completely responsible for all of the damage. GSU got 7 runs on 3 singles, catcher interference, an error, 2 walks, and a wild pitch that all came after Springs was pulled. We have to get someone who can come in and shut the door. Every really good team has a guy in the pen just for that, but nobody on our roster has been able to do it consistently. Leaving Springs in too long should have cost us 1 or 2 runs at most not 7. I agree that Billy has made bad decisions but he is probably scareed to take the starters out knowing what we have in the pen.

Did you not see who he brought it?JTApps1 wrote:Even if he left Springs in for 1 batter too long it's hard to say that decision is completely responsible for all of the damage. Re: GSU Series
Springs should have never started the 8th. 113 pitches at that point. Finished with 121. He pitched great. Put us in solid position to win. Pat him on back and let the bullpen save it. Let them start with a clean slate rather than running the risk of having them enter in trouble. As I eluded to in my prior post, I am afraid Jones has created a bullpen full of headcases. They are pressing so hard due to the situations they are being put into that they can't do the simple things that got them where they are in the first place. Its the only logical explanation I can think of for the large number of wild pitches and 4 or 5 pitch walks.JTApps1 wrote:Even if he left Springs in for 1 batter too long it's hard to say that decision is completely responsible for all of the damage. Baseball is managing risks and thus far, Jones has proven to me he doesn't do that very well after the 7th inning. I noticed it last year, but thought he would learn (man were we spoiled with Pollard!). Halfway into year 2 its still the same. We have a team that if managed right, could be making noise nationally. As Saint just asked, how many games would we have won if we only played through 7 innings. It is a bad trend that has developed and I am not sure what is going to fix it. Harsh words I know, but something has to give.

Re: GSU Series
Yep, DeVrieze who worked a perdect inning yesterday. Who else should he go to? Thurber got through yesterday, but nearly blew the save. Whaley has struggled a ton lately, Joyce blew the lead Friday, and Farmer still isn' t healthy. Who do you suggest?3rd wrote:Did you not see who he brought it?JTApps1 wrote:Even if he left Springs in for 1 batter too long it's hard to say that decision is completely responsible for all of the damage.
