That is the new NCAA standard for 2016.
GPA and SAT/ACT sliding scale minimum requirement!
Go APPS!

And you folks don't think this happens at our beloved ASU?
SMH………….
Our marginal students coalesce into a couple of majors and there is a reason.
Let the athletes that want to major in football major in football, if it's basketball let them major in basketball.
Then they have the opportunity to coach if their dreams fall short of NBA, NFL etc……
This is a fact at all schools always has been and will be.

I am positive this exists at a lot of places. That does not make it ethical and the tar heels took it to a different level than just offering bullshit majors.

Very true.....BS majors and classes that apparently don't exist are two completely different things.

I don't think we create phony classes. I don't think we created an entire department to house those phony classes. I do think we do what a lot of schools do to get athletes through. I don't think we should, but that doesn't rise anywhere near the level of what UNC-CH has done.

It doesn't happen to that level at App, we don't have the resources to do so.
No one wrote a book about doing it the right way about App.
Bye.

BINGO! The issue most of our posters have is the hypocrisy, not that they're the only program breaking rules. When you spend a quarter decade+ telling everyone how you're morally superior, you place a target on your back and narrow your margin for error.

Strategically taking easy classes isn't even against the rules. Fabricating an entire system of fake classes and majors is the most egregious NCAA academic fraud conspiracy of all time.

The bad thing is nothing will happen. Not even a slap on the wrist. Not just because they are UNC but because the hypocrisy of the entire system will be exposed if the NCAA comes down on chapel hell. I would love to see them get an epic bitch slap but don't count on it.

This is a big deal, now. UNC School of Journalism grads in prestigious positions all over the world have kept this stuff under wraps for decades. But no more. The whitewash is over; completely over!!

Confirmed phantom class stories. This story was actually a very good case for paying these athletes because some of them are getting screwed. They are admitted even though they are not capable of succeeding and being granted worthless degrees so the NCAA and the university can appear to fulfilling their mission to graduate 50% of athletes. I was totally against paying athletes but some of these kids are totally being exploited and getting nothing in return. I would rather see the system return to the days when there was a minimum SAT but I suppose that would be seen as discriminatory in these politically correct times.
I thought there were mininum SAT scores required still. I was at the NCAA Eligibility Center but did not have time to register and delve into the website.
This is my very generic signature added to each post.

The HBO Real Sports piece said that they had been replaced by a requirement that 50% of athletes graduate. I believe they said SAT requirements were ditched in 2003? I personally do not know I was just going by what they said. I find it hard to believe kids reading at 4th or 5th grade level such as those at chapel hole achieved any minimum standards. One of the former UNC athletes they interviewed had made 13 F's, 7 D's and graduated with a degree from UNC Chapel Hill in Interdisciplinary Studies. He voluntarily took a literacy test and scored in the low middle school range. At least he can read Hop on Pop to his kid. If that were my Alma Mater I would never donate another single red Efin cent. I am embarrassed to live in a state where that hole is called the flagship university. I am so glad my daughter did not listen to all the idiots that told her she was selling herself short by going to App.

Just read clarification. The sat requirements are still in place but there is now a sliding scale. If you have good grades you do not have to meet the minimum SAT requirements. Lots of kids slip in this way and they are the ones like those at chapel hill that can't read.

Not to interject on a good rant, but wasn't that student with 13 F's Dasmine Cathey from Memphis?
