Davidson said done! We have a Fox in the house

looks like a great hire, listening to him, he comes across as intelligent, confident, and gives me the impression he already has a plan in place.

A Plan ??
Whaaa
Is it for the football team?
I wish him ALL the good luck i can !!!

Atleast we won't be watching the style from the past several years.
I hope the current players tie their sneakers tight and get ready to rumble !!

I like the fact that he wears brown shoes with a blue suit. He's ok in my book just for that.asutrnr81 wrote:Thanks!asu66 wrote:

Per the Winston-Salem Journal:
Fox’s contract as Appalachian’s coach is for five years, with a base salary starting at $200,000 for the 2014-15 contract year and increasing $10,000 each year.
He can earn supplemental bonuses for achieving set goals for academic-progress rate and grade-point average for the team, winning conference titles, NCAA Tournament berths and advancement, NIT berths and conference coach-of-the-year awards.
The contract includes a salary pool of $200,000 for three assistant-coaching positions and funding for a director of basketball operations at $50,000 a year.

Sounds pretty good to me, how does that compare with others in the SB?AppGrad78 wrote:Per the Winston-Salem Journal:

Re: Davidson said done! We have a Fox in the house
It's not every day that one of the best players in the NBA and an extremely talented NBA head coach are quoted giving high praise to an Appalachian State head basketball coach. (Not kidding... see below!)
I don't know much about Davidson's staff except that they run a great program. So far everything I'm hearing about Coach Fox is getting me excited about the future of App State basketball!
"Coach Fox is a great leader that knows how to connect with his players both on and off the court. He knows the game and puts the time in to make himself better and will get the most out of each player he coaches. A guy I keep in touch with to this day, because of how much he pushed me on the court, but also genuinely cared about me. Appalachian State is getting a gem." -- Stephen Curry, Golden State Warriors
"I'm really happy for Jim. He's a guy that has worked tirelessly to do his part in helping make Davidson what it is today. He's bright and clearly understands what it takes to be successful. App State hit a home run with Jim Fox." -- Brad Stevens, Boston Celtics Head Coach

Just out of curiosity,
Does that mean, $200,000 total for 3 assistants? I don't know anything about mid major salaries for assistants, but that doesn't seem like a lot to me.The contract includes a salary pool of $200,000 for three assistant-coaching positions

Re: Davidson said done! We have a Fox in the house
I'm no expert, but this breaks out to a pretty good budget, I think. You're talking about approximately 90,000+ for a number one, 60,000 for a two, and 50,000 for a three. That three is going to be a young guy fresh to the bench and probably a newer grad. Do we know of there are incentives for the assistants too?kiddbrewer wrote:Just out of curiosity,

Re: Davidson said done! We have a Fox in the house
Congrats to Coach Fox. The Mountaineer nation stands behind you!!
One of the first things I hope he does, in addition to hiring staff, is have a serious "come to Jesus" meeting with the returning players.....letting them know that they come to college primarily to learn. We teach school and play sports. Not play school and teach sports.
Also the trips to the Watauga County Sheriff's Dept. need to come to a screeching halt! I just read "Mountain Educators" the story of how the Dougherty brothers built our beloved alma mater from a small building near where Greer Hall stands to the major university she is today. One of the building blocks that Blan and Daugh instilled was strong moral character. The athletes who wear our colors and name need to reflect that core value.
I appreciate Coach Satt and his "three strikes and your out" stance. It seems to be working. Some of the kids from men basketball are sitting on a full count, if not already walking back to the dugout. Given his background Coach Fox seems to be a home plate umpire willing to call a third strike.
I want to win and get back to post season tourneys as much as anyone. More than I do not want to see App State dragged into the mud by kids who do not appreciate the free education they are being offered for playing a game 30+ times a year.
Sermon over...........GO APPS!

I think I noted that Fox is single. If we want to keep him for the long haul, we need to find him a classy, beautiful, ASU alumnus bride. There are tons of them out there.

First Interview.
Saw him at the baseball game tonight. Threw out the first pitch. Stepped on the rubber and didn't bounce it. He knows his basketball. Put a ballcap on him and he looks 10 years younger.
And of course I got an e-mail about basketball season tickets tonight.
Full photo album of his appearance tonight.

Irish Eyes are smilin' down on Long Islander James Patrick Fox and the ASU Mountaineers. Hopefully, he will have the same sort of good luck and good fortune as another Mountaineer coach who was born to Irish immigrants in The Bronx--a certain Robert Cremins.
Things are finally lookin' up for ASU Men's Basketball. It's high time for it! Welcome to The High Country of North Carolina, Coach Fox.

JT...let's hope he has the same success as the last young, single coach from New York did a long time ago...JTApps1 wrote:I hope he is up for the challenge. I do like that Brad Stevens is so high on Fox. If he can accomplish anything close to what Stevens did we will be in good shape. There is a ton of work to do before we can even think about that though.
We don't slide at Appalachian State. It's a sign of weakness.

Chuck I just made same observation to JT a little earlier. I wonder if Coach Fox has his own "Corky" to keep him company?asu66 wrote:Irish Eyes are smilin' down on Long Islander James Patrick Fox and the ASU Mountaineers.
