Sounds like someone told Coach Fox that there might be a grades issue when he took the job. :o

Scott Hamilton ‏@ScottH_WSJ
.@JournalNow's Tommy Bowman reports Fox was aware of potential academic issues when he took @AppStateBball job

Nothing against TB as it was in his article. Just wondering why Hamilton felt the need to tweet this since pretty much everyone knew there were issues. And does he really think we wouldn't let any potential coach know exactly what is the situation. Even Cobb isn't that dumb. Good Grief.

and FIY, students at most SoCon schools, Ark. St, and UNCC have started picking up on it so get ready for some wonderful posts.

I've also seen several people post this but I thought it would be a funny one to add to the mix.

Christian Northrup ‏@DrCGNorthrup
Poor actual grades in real classes = postseason ban for App. State. Good fake grades in fake classes = no sanctions for UNC.

I wrote a blog about the APR issues and how the APR is done.

hard to believe that Fox didn't atleast have a clue that we had problems academically, coaches talk, and I agree CC wouldn't have been that stupid or deceitful to hide that from Fox, but, in the end, it really doesn't matter, the punishment is light, there was no chance we were going to a postseason anyway next year, so Fox starts with a clean slate and we move forward.

I don't think it should take a score over 950 to get the postseason ban lifted. From App's press release:

"...one of the ways that the program can regain postseason eligibility is to achieve a two-year APR average of 950."

If I'm reading that correctly, an APR next year of 921 should do the trick. Though of course you'd want to do better than that to keep the program in good standing for future years.

I completely agree. Of course Coach Fox knew what the situation was. Everybody knew what the situation was. Even if you could you don't hide information like that from a perspective coach. And it really doesn't matter. I put it there in jest and to show that some people can't help themselves when it comes to twitter and especially when it comes to taking a shot at App. I can't begin to count the number of posts I've read since this came out, especially from SoCon people and from Ark. St. people. They seem especially happy that they have something negative to post about App.

Onward and upward we go.

I'm not sure that tweet is a shot at App. Seems pretty straightforward to me. Now, it's most definitely stating the obvious, as you say. This whole message board knew about the APR issues, so to think that App's new coach wouldn't is absurd.

I don't care what the SoCon fans think, but it's a little upsetting that the Ark. State fans are getting that excited over this. Are they still bitter about the Matthew Eaton situation?

Yep. That and others that we were competing with them for. Remember they were the ones who were talking to recruits on twitter and then posted, two weeks before signing day, to stop, as if that would have taken away all the previous weeks of posts. They have been complaining ever since and some of their unofficial sites make a lot of effort to bust on everything App. No real different than some of the things that unofficial sites of ours do also.

East Hall: I wasn't saying Hamilton was the one taking a shot at App. His just wasn't a smart post. I should have made that more clear. Sorry about that. I was talking about the dozens of other tweets I've read and still am reading about this. Again, no big deal as we've been the butt of many a post, this year especially. We're big boys and can take it. I just have to read this stuff all the time. Mostly I just sit back and laugh.

Gotcha, Moose.

Re Ark. State: Just remember, nobody in the Sun Belt is our "brethren." They're the competition, and if App handles its business on the gridiron and the court, they'll have a lot more reasons to dislike us.

Very true. Budding rivalry in the making. The whole ASU vs ASU started this when we were first mentioned in the Belt discussion and it's just climbed from there. They are one of the top FB teams in the Belt and one of it's top overall programs. They are ticked off that we had a better recruiting class than they did and they seem to dislike us a lot more than Ga Sou. Come July 1 it's time to start taking care of business. :D

I really enjoyed the Ark St. fans that claimed App couldn't win a head to head battle for a football recruit.

We should see a lot more traffic from opponent's fans on here this year, mods beware.

Not bad at all, considering that football essentially got a 2 year postseason ban through no fault of their own.

Better days are coming for all sports folks. Keep the faith.

Ark St fans are going to be a lot of fun, we seemed to have "wounded their pride", with, atleast on paper, a strong football recruiting class. It probably will take a couple of years, but once we start competing for SBC conference championships, I predict a bitter rivalry between the fan bases.

Arkansas State fans can yak all they want but they are still in Arkansas. Plus would you rather have Yosef as a mascot or Jed Clampett? Whee doggies

Any Ark. State fan who thought that Fox was unaware of our APR issue is probably carrying genetic material from the Statesboro, Ga. area. An absolutely moronic comment...and I'd wager a bet that Ark. St. is not exactly a pinnacle of academic achievement.

Yeah it's a joke but our problem is real. Cobb has been disastrous for our BB program.
