Why come to App then? It's not like the weather snuck up on him. People have known it to be cold here for centuries. :?

AppAttack: This is not meant for you but for everybody. Covington was talking about missing the city and the fact that the mountains and Boone were not THE CITY. He didn't bring up the weather or cold any more than any other college student that I had to read all winter. He simply wanted to be back in the city, any city. He talked about going back to Atlanta before Charlotte. Said he was originally from there before his family moved to Charlotte. We even DM'd a few times on twitter and he said, except for one post where he was frustrated that he quickly removed, that he really didn't have anything against App but it just wasn't the place for him. He's a city boy through and through. Good Luck to him. He's back home now and I wish him the best. And we're just fine without him.

Some people don't like small towns. They want to go to the grocery store, get in and get out, without having to stop to talk to everyone in the store. I'm not sure that's what a young man in his late teens craves, but I understand it as a 40-year-old man.

I would suggest it foolhardy to try and gain insight into someone's thinking by reviewing his social media. Perhaps, he didn't think he would beat out the talent already here and that which is coming in, but I fail to see the need to bash the kid simply because where he wound up.
I never bashed the kid. He never saw the field at App. That's just a fact.
Not sure what you meant by he never saw the field at App.

Mostly special team play and he was certainly no all star but he did play in all 12 games in 2013.

Touché though. I should have looked it up. I just didn't recall ever seeing him play on defense.

Well it has been stated that it was not the weather. In answer to your question though there is a big difference between visiting for a day or two and living in it for 3 or 4 months.

Geez. Granted Boone is colder and snowier than Charlotte, but last time I checked, some college students actually attend and play in places like Michigan, Massachusetts, Ohio, Iowa, Connecticut, and Montana.

I believe it is much more likely that the kid was a little disappointed in playing time, and disillusioned by a very unusually disappointing season. Then, things like size of the town, weather, etc... become exaggerated. Plus, today's younger generation member is much more likely to transfer out (school and work) if things aren't ideal,- this is true at even the P-5 schools. As alums and fans, we just shake our heads and move on, and not take it as an insult to our beloved alma mater or football program.

I agree, I think too much emphasis for the reason he left is his desire to live in a city vs a small town. He was a big time recruit, maybe he was reading his own press clippings and was disappointed with the reality of actual playing time, who knows, Im not surprised that he ended up at UNCC, at this moment, with their lack of talent, he is almost guaranteed of getting much more playing time, plus though Im not sure, they are still an FCS program, so he will not have to sit out a year. I wish him well, hopes everything works out for him.

Why is it we so often spend more time on the guys that leave than the ones that stay?

No joke, good luck to Anthony in whatever major he chooses.

I'd rather spend time talking about who will be on our two deep at DB, I wouldn't say we are deep at that position.

Being told about the weather in Boone and researching it doesn't necessarily prepare a person for it until they actually experience it and, too, realize the limitations it imposes on their daily life. At least that seems to manifest itself in the number of students, faculty and coaches who leave after one or two winters. The kids from up North don't seem to have a problem with it, though and the ones from Florida love it because it gets them out of that merciless heat where they lived.

Woops, bcoach, I just now read your post which said the same thing I posted and a thousand times more succinctly.

Yeah, I'm not sure it really matters why he left. It was his choice and I respect it.

No, anyone that transfers to Charlotte for this season has to sit a year. Since we are over the scholarship limit for FCS, we don't technically qualify as FCS, but we also don't count as FBS.

We got transfers from UGA, UT, and Syracuse this year, but none of them are eligible to play.

Point well made, but let's face it, if we all didn't take kids who had gotten in trouble for doing something stupid you and I would have been able to make our teams. Hopefully Lemay has learned from his what he did and his parent are going to be around to make sure he did. Nothing has been officially announced about Riley yet so who knows if that even happens, but he redshirted last year due to a leg injury. Hardly a case of couldn't get on the field. Manley did not play much at Syracuse but he will probably play a lot at Charlotte. This is a great pickup for us. To mix metaphors, from a football perspective these look like homeruns.

Speak for Yosef.

That is most definitely not the case at Appalachian State.

be careful what you wish for 49er, we have had our own share of collage transfer thru the year, they all look good on paper in the middle of June, but when you actually get them on the field, you find out real quick why they transferred to a smaller program, not saying they will not workout, but I wouldn't bet they are going to take your program to the next level.

So Gonzo,

Why the need to be confrontational? From all accounts, I have heard that you are a nice guy and your post generally demonstrate a general knowledge to which you speak. But why the constant need to sully the message with confrontational or antagonistic remarks? Sorry to pile on.

Ok. To someone from Atlanta or Charlotte (or practically anywhere), Boone has never been a big CITY. It has always been cold. No surprises here. It's only for 3 years out of your 90 year lifespan. In any event, he came and left for whatever reason and we'll both move on.
