O'Bannon vs. NCAA Trial
Following link provides a play-by-play from the courtroom. Very interesting reading, and it doesn't sound good for the NCAA, so far. A few interesting tidbits:
University of Texas women's AD testified that Texas about 3% of its $165MM athletic budget go towards athletic scholarships.
USC Gamecock President testified that USC spends $7.1MM per year on coaches salaries and $2.88MM on athletic scholarships. His job as President pays $675M per year, the same as the AD. Spurrier makes $5MM per year. W
O'Bannon and Tyrone Prothro testified that they spent 40+ hours per week on sport, and maybe 12 hours a week on academics. They also testified they were steered towards certain majors.
Clustering of revenue sport athletes in certain majors was noted at Vanderbilt and Texas.

Re: O'Bannon vs. NCAA Trial
I had to go to the articles and look because it seemed really abnormal, but the USC President and AD make 675K per year and not 675M per year.DoubleA wrote:Following link provides a play-by-play from the courtroom. Sorry for any confusion. In my business (banking ) we use M for thousands (rather than K) and MM for Millions.

That explains a lot. I wasn't sure if it was a typo or not. K and M are next to each other on the keyboard.DoubleA wrote:Sorry for any confusion. In my business (banking ) we use M for thousands (rather than K) and MM for Millions.
I still find it amazing that coaches are making more money than their "boss". I wish that works in the education field.

Re: O'Bannon vs. NCAA Trial
LOL. I spent 33 years as a federal bank examiner and thought we were the only ones that used M for thousands instead of K. Caused quite a bit of confusion for me when I read articles that used the K for awhile.DoubleA wrote:Sorry for any confusion. I beg to disagree. K is Coach $9.68MMSOB. I'll never forget the vulgar fit he threw in the runway behind and below the stands in the "Duke Indoor Stadium" the night Kevin Cantwell's Apps beat his Dookies fair and square on their own home court with their very own Cameron Crazies and their very own ACC pin stripe shirts. When he got on his post game radio show, he talked about how superior his athletes were to Kevins players and how Duke would win 99 of every 100 games played by those two teams. He was a real chump; but when the Duke announcer signed off the broadcast, he said "and tonight it was Kevin Cantwell's Appalachian State Mountaineers 75, Duke 70; and you heard it all here on the Duke Blue Devils Basketball network." I enjoyed laughing at the guy as he stomped away from the booth.
Proud triple-degree App grad--Classes of '66, '70 and '81.
If it happens to the Apps, it happens to me!
