My guess is look for either, Virginia or Wake. I don't see anyone else in the ACC coming to Boone anytime soon. UNC doesn't want the embarrassment & State just scheduled a home-home with Mississippi State.

Wake came to mind due to the proximity, also Duke doesn't travel well for football. Maybe BC, GT or Pitt as they wont bring many fans.

"Cobb said bringing an ACC team to Boone would not require a stadium expansion."
A lot of folks on this board would tell him otherwise.

That line also leads me to believe we could be seeing an ACC team in Boone prior to 2018, the date expansion of KBS is slated to begin.EastHallApp wrote:"Cobb said bringing an ACC team to Boone would not require a stadium expansion."

That would make sense. Though on the other hand:Gonzo wrote:That line also leads me to believe we could be seeing an ACC team in Boone prior to 2018, the date expansion of KBS is slated to begin.EastHallApp wrote:"Cobb said bringing an ACC team to Boone would not require a stadium expansion."

"It's going to take a little bit of time -- it's going to take several years."
Maybe he's looking to play at an ACC team in 2016 and then bring them to Boone in '17? Could also be a 2-for-1.
I think it's fair to question whether he is speaking prematurely and if this will actually happen. However, I'd be thrilled to even bring someone like Marshall or ECU to Boone, so the fact that we at least have a chance to bring in an ACC team is pretty exciting IMO.

So you don't like the one we hired? Did Cobb make a bad hire with Fox? Or is it just your eternal hatred of Cobb? I m not a Cobb fan either but dang man you need to let this go and try to enjoy App athletics.IGgreer wrote:"We will get a basketball coach with head coaching experience" - Cobb

I do support Cobb and APP. Everyone thinks they can do his job better. Every university has an AD that hundreds or thousands don't like. Very few know the hard decisions he has to make with the constraints he may have. And last, almost nothing he does goes without Chancellors approval.
SO, bring on the ACC, AAC, SEC, BIG 10,12, PAC 10 and lets have some fun !!!!
Re: Cobb: ACC team in Kidd Brewer
got to be Wake, minimal expense to get team to Boone, large fan base in the Greensboro area, easy travel for their fans, and they are accustomed to playing in front of 25-30 thousand.

That tells me it isn't a nearby school who would want several thousand tickets.

Re: Cobb: ACC team in Kidd Brewer
OK, like everyone else so far, I know nothing. But since speculating is fun, here are the ones I see as possibilities, in descending order of likelihood.
Wake: Would make the most sense. Still wide open for 2017, so they might be getting a little desperate.
Syracuse: They don't schedule too tough and will travel outside their region/recruiting footprint (play @ Central Michigan this year). Also have openings beginning in 2016.
Miami: Darkhorse, dream scenario, but not as crazy as it might sound. Their fans don't travel anyway, and they already have road games at Arkansas St. (2017) and Toledo (2018). We'd probably be looking at 2019 or later... but they do have one more opening for 2016 (probably will be a home game though).
Louisville: Wide open for 2017 and beyond, and they did schedule road games with Houston and Marshall in 2016. But would they still play games like that now that they're ACC?
BC: Small, non-traveling fanbase, so maybe they would consider it? See Wake @ ULM, Duke @ Troy.
Georgia Tech: Would make some sense (reasonably close, fans don't travel much, have a couple openings), but they don't seem to schedule teams like us much. Did play @ MTSU a few years back. Don't know if PJ would want to do us any favors.
NC State: Not totally new territory for them, as they'll travel to ODU (2015), South Alabama (2015) and Troy (2017) in the coming years. Plus maybe Cobb's alma mater would do him a favor. But those other games are likely more about recruiting, which Boone doesn't offer.

Re: Cobb: ACC team in Kidd Brewer
Also he just said "talks are already underway to get an ACC team to visit Boone". He didn't say one is coming, done deal, etc. Hopefully it will happen (my guess is 80% chance its Wake), but his statements just mean that's it's a possibility.IGgreer wrote:Love the Fox hire. He wouldn't say something publicly like that if he wasn't sure it's happening.

That would also look like an absolutley full App fan stadium with all the black and gold.moehler wrote:got to be Wake, minimal expense to get team to Boone, large fan base in the Greensboro area, easy travel for their fans, and they are accustomed to playing in front of 25-30 thousand.

Re: Cobb: ACC team in Kidd Brewer
Duke would make a ton of sense eventually, but they are essentially full through 2018, at least in teams of road games.
UVa is full through 2017 and hasn't been willing to travel to play teams at our level in recent years.
