I was saying since the start of the second half that if we lost, it was on the offense. Sure enough, they just about blew it for us had it not been for some late game heroics. We had ample opportunities to put the game away in the second half but didn't.McLeansvilleAppFan wrote:JCline0429 wrote:This one is gone.
Maybe we do need the down-vote button back.![]()
Of course, that was much easier to post now, than during the game when I was not full of positive vibes after the 4th down throw not being complete.

We looked sucky until that last drive. If it wasn't my own Apps, I would have bet money.

I don't agree that Samford out played us for 59 mins. After they got up 10-7 we shut their offense down until the 4th, and I really believe our D got worn out thanks to the O not moving the ball. Obviously Samford get credit for stopping our O for a large parts of the game. Both teams had tough stretches and we were fortunate enough to have the ball and enough time to score.cbarrier90 wrote:It's not about whether or not we would have scored on that last play. The fact of the matter is Samford needed two yards to win that game and thankfully elected to let JJ and Co. choose their own destiny. We were outplayed and outcoached for 59 minutes and are extremely fortunate to escape with this victory. I do feel bad for Samford since their play did not deserve a loss on their SoCon record.ASU-FTW wrote:To those of you saying you feel bad....really?? Do you have actual video evidence that the catch was not a TD? Sheesh.
Anyway, who's to say we would not have scored a TD on the next play, or the one after that? Samford could have prevented a "bad call" by going for it on 4th and .5 earlier (do you really think we could stop them at that point). They could have prevented that call by not letting us move down the field with ease to begin with, or by intercepting that horrible pass by JJ.

Price caught the ball in bounds end of story I was there, there was three inches of green between his toes and the white line, and the pic proves it...I am perplexed as to why ASU did not do that to them all afternoon long. Say what you want, but ASU should have beaten them by a wider margin. I dont get JJ throwing the ball into double coverage for an interception when he could have ran for three yards, slid and had gotten the first down and kept the next to last drive very well much alive. Yes im happy ASU got the win, the whiners from Samford need to take a hard look at that picture...It just seems ASU offense comes unglued at times, or eases up when they should attack....This ASU offfense today was like being at a Mad Hatters tea party....Very disturbing...But a win is a win...The last drive was amazing, methodically carving up of Samfords slow defense and leaving only 22 seconds on the clock and could have been done alot more....If this game was played at KBS Samford would have been destroyed...

That's part of the decision making issues I've seen with JJ. Dangit, when it's 4th and 1 and you can run for the first down you do it. That was a pivotal play and had he tucked and ran 2 yards and slid that last play would not have had to happen.

That play really really just was like what are you *&&^^& doing. My wife started to cry...Either way we saw a glimpse of how special they can be, and at times just how bad they can be inside of 6 minutes. The Samford people were really angry thought they got cheated. But they didnt...Should not schedule ASU for your home coming. They were shaking thier keys at us....

I will say that the receiver was open and probably would have sprung it for more yards but at that point you have to be thinking, "get the first down, just get the first down." But it's plays like that let us get to enjoy a drive like the last one. I'd just rather keep what little hair I have left.

I agree with you but JJ threw a bullet at Frazier it bounced of his helmet and into the DB's hands and he could have just ran and slid. Either way on to Wofford. Who seems to have injuries on thier defense just like ASU...

You and everyone else. Didn't Satterfield say the team was going to play more up tempo this year? The general play calling never seems to reflect that, but when they get to the hurry up good things start to happen. I'm glad Miller is doing as well as he is running the ball, but I'd love to see more gun slinging down the field from JJ.App90 wrote:I am perplexed as to why ASU did not do that to them all afternoon long.

RankingApp.....
Im starting to wonder if SS really has total control of the ASU offense....Based on what I saw today...ASU's offense looked like Dr Jeckyll and Mr Hyde today...And ASU's skilled players were visually far superior in speed and quickness...

Maybe we are playing close to the vest in order to save our defense? If we can shorten the game by a possession or two, it might be enough. Doesn't always work, but with our depleted defense, we can better control a game in the 20s a than one in the 50s. Think 2004.

Your signature says it all....
. But having to win games like this is not a good sign for the long term in regards to the rest of the season...If this is the strategy they are using...

The signature does look out of place in this context.App90 wrote:Your signature says it all..... But having to win games like this is not a good sign for the long term in regards to the rest of the season...If this is the strategy they are using...
I agree it isn't a good sign, but I don't think it's going to end well either way.

Re: *Official ASU vs Lil Sammy In-Game Thread*
When our defense was on the field about 8 minutes more than our offense in the first half + with the injuries there cutting into our depth on what David Jackson was saying was a hot day - why should the offense be in any hurry mode - they had to use some clock and give the defense some rest - plus with the lead going into the 4th Q - what advantage did it give us? - we had 2 scoring opportunities we didn't cash in on - those hurt BUT the defense was there to make those 2 big stops at the end ---RankinApp wrote:You and everyone else. Well a school record 7th straight 400+ yard game to start the season is enough to tell me who is running the offense ---App90 wrote:RankingApp.....
