I just sent David Jackson an email mentioning the problems and concerns of more than a few of us.

Neulion is an FCS media portal. I will never again waste my money on a subscription to goasu (appstatesports) until the school makes a change.

Seems they do have quite a large number of college customers. Including by my count, seven SBC members.

Have had a ton of problems with play back on those daily practice videos.
Here again, not with the ads or any other play backs.

I'd be interested in polling the fans of other SBC members that use Neulion as to their experience. I'm not a wiz at streaming or online media. Maybe they pay more for a better package?

And my use of FCS in that post was more-or-less a figure of speech. Busch league, et al.

I used to place blame on NeuLion and the JumpTV that App used before NeuLion purchased Jump. I think there have been a few times NeuLion has been the culprit. I think they are responsible for the problems for the presser that would not stream when we announced the move to the SB. However I have emailed David Jackson over the years about problems, and I think he finally posted on here about the SB move presser. If memory serves me correctly I think he said, if not in that post, in an email that most of the problems is way to much demand on underfunded technology on the App side. I am paraphrasing but I think most problems are on our end.

There are a few options. Sidearm is not exclusive to small colleges and such but I have only run across them with a school like Elon, and Elon did not charge for viewing until recently. WCU uses CBSSports interactive and I have read plenty of complaints on their board, though they are listed as a NeuLion customer, but I think the part of NeuLion WCU uses is not related to streaming but fundraising and maybe ticket sales.

I think in most cases the problems are lack of a robust backend at the school site. MLB and Netflix have tons and tons of servers and multiple data centers (and revenue to support it all.) we don't. But to call Neulion an FCS portal is not correct. I had the chance to watch App baseball beat up on LSU a few years ago b/c LSU uses NeuLion. There are plenty of FCS schools with NeuLion but not all of them are part of NeuLion.

Now I do wish the entire SB including the SB office and all the schools would use a common platform so every school could share away game feeds. The schools are spread out enough that I doubt streaming a game is going to effect away game attendance, and it would help each school push their own subscriber base. When streaming was getting started a few years ago about 3/4 of the SoCon was with NeuLion and most every game that I cared to watch was shared amongst the NeuLion using schools.

http://www.sidearmsports.com/our-clients/ Lots of D1 but also a lot of DII, DIII, NAIA and even HS.

http://www.neulion.com/ViewArticle.dbml ... =206115423 does pro sports like NHL, AHL, MLS and they even have a link for ESPN Player and they have tie-in to NFL and NBA

I thought the Commish, Benson, said ESPN was going to be carrying ALL SBC football games this season. Therefore the only question is which ESPN channel it will be on for a given game. It could be ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, ESPNEWS or ESPN3. In which case, I assume ESPN would retain rights and the live game would not even be available on the respective school's streaming website.

It could be ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU or if none of the channels that are carried by regular sat/cable feeds then it will be streamed via ESPN3. I was thinking about basketball, baseball, volleyball and softball and some other sports that just are not going to have much of a traveling fan base, even when schools are close. Though I would just as soon have a deal where the schools could stream their own game and let ESPN still carry the football game. I also know ESPN would never go for that. I am also likely going to be a cord-cutter at the end of the month unless Time Warner wants to give me MUCH cheaper cable so my desire to up the streaming at the expense of ESPN coverage would not bother me, though I know in the grand scheme of things that would hurt SB exposure at this point.

I know some folks like to watch the non-revenue sports and I want the university to support them in all aspects but honestly, no offense to our great athletics, I am not spending any of my time watching SBC volleyball, track, etc. so that is not exactly a priority for me.

I find myself putting a game on and playing it in the background and checking on it every now and then, and that is not every game. If non-revenue sports were a priority for many, they would morph in revenue sports, that is for sure. But having as much sharing of streams for these type of games would make the subscription more compelling, especially as more FB and MBB are shown on ESPN related networks.

McLeansvilleAppFan is right about our funding and old equipment. Now that he is gone I dont mind saying that Cobb was cutting the video/radio budget each of the past few years. Our crew kept piecing together old equipment with some new stuff added in from time to time, but for the most part they are working on a shoestring budget. They basically run the department off of the revenue from AppstateTV subscriptions which will likely drop with ESPN covering all Sun Belt games. This lack of funding is one reason Jake left for Louisville.

I believe all that needs to be done is to get the appstatesports.com content/website manager to change some settings so the files buffer longer before they begin to play on our computers. Come on AppNation, the Mountaineers are better than this... Lets get the right people involved and "FIX IT!" :D

I'm glad about the ESPN stuff, but anything we stream, especially stuff we fans pay for, should work.

Additionally am concerned you may not be able to see a lot of ESPN3 broadcasts
of home games due to ESPN black out restrictions. Seems to be a fact of life.
Wish our App State TV was also broadcasting them.

My guess is that legally they can't.

David Jackson replied to my email. I'll paraphrase, and I assume he will not mind me doing that for anyone having problems.

One, he was aware since he seems to be have been following this thread, but like me he has not had any problems. He will contact NeuLion and see if something is going on on their end.

He also mentioned that no one had sent in a ticket on this. Though he did not suggest this, I would suggest that when problems arise with the online streaming to take 2-3 minutes and complete a ticket. That way the powers that be are aware.
