I just wonder if they are required to buy tickets for seats that don't exist. I realize some wisenheimer may say that's what App does with the grass bank, but this is specifically regarding band members--there is a difference.WVAPPeer wrote:And I do believe that is where all visiting bands were last year as well ---ASUMountaineer wrote:The band didn't sit in seats in 2007. What is our policy on this or do we even have a policy? GaSo brought a bit of a band and we also placed some temp stands near were there fans would be sitting. I think this was 2007.ASUMountaineer wrote:I just wonder if they are required to buy tickets for seats that don't exist. Interesting that there are some in this thread who believe we should pay for the band to attend, but also believe that we shouldn't have financed the expansion of athletic facilities.

I found that funny myself!BeauFoster wrote:Interesting that there are some in this thread who believe we should pay for the band to attend, but also believe that we shouldn't have financed the expansion of athletic facilities.
But there should be a policy for away games and not base it on the game itself. Either we pay or we don't. Then if they decide to pay they can decide how many gets to go, etc.

Just joking, but why don't we finance the expenses for the band to travel to the Michigan game in the Big House?BeauFoster wrote:Interesting that there are some in this thread who believe we should pay for the band to attend, but also believe that we shouldn't have financed the expansion of athletic facilities.

Re: Band of Distinction
Well, then I don't get your reply. We were discussing the BOD not being able to make the trip due to costs--and some had mentioned it was due to having to purchase tickets for the band members. Which is what prompted my post that they didn't actually use seats. Perhaps you didn't read the rest of the posts before replying. It might would have prevented your post from seeming terse.NewApp wrote:I know you said that in the post to which I was replying.ASUMountaineer wrote:Yeah, I know--I sat right behind them.NewApp wrote:At least they were there.ASUMountaineer wrote:The band didn't sit in seats in 2007. Re: Band of Distinction
It was not at all being terse, sarcastic, crass nor anything else negative at all. All I was inferring was that they were quite fortunate to have been able to attend the Michigan game in the Big House no matter how the expenses were paid.

If the band wants to sell bonds to pay for it, let them.NewApp wrote:Just joking, but why don't we finance the expenses for the band to travel to the Michigan game in the Big House?BeauFoster wrote:Interesting that there are some in this thread who believe we should pay for the band to attend, but also believe that we shouldn't have financed the expansion of athletic facilities.

Re: Band of Distinction
I can understand why the band isn't traveling. In my three years with the band I had the opportunity to travel to the Swamp, Va Tech, ECU, Furman and march in the Governors Parade in Raleigh. Every time the band travels it costs close to $100,000 or more than that for the florida trip in 2010. Hotel rooms for every 4 band members, about 5 busses, meal costs for every band member/ KKpsi brother, all the seats for the block they they take up and the equipment truck. its not cheap. I don't know if is purely the HSoM that pays or if athletics pays for some. I know the band wouldn't have traveled to ECU in 2012 had a generous sponsor not stepped up and allowed us to go. The money probably isn't there. Also I'm pretty sure the partners game is being funded by the panthers and not the school and the band is going to Ga Southern from what I hear.

More important to Whom? --- if you were a band member would rather perform in the Big House or The Stink? - they are no different than the football players wanting to be on the Big Stage ---JTApps1 wrote:I believe so and it honestly is more important to have them at that game than Michigan.T-Dog wrote:Would this be the first time the BoD makes the trip to GaSo?BTK2000 wrote:and the band is going to Ga Southern from what I hear.

Re: Band of Distinction
That brings me back to the point of... the BOD needs to raise funds for those special trips and should have marked this game on the calendar two years ago. Had they done that I'm sure many of us alumni would have "banded" together to sponsor band members..........It's not like the expense would be a surprise. The reality of the BOD and others like them is there is a finite budget for away travel. And with the BOD being back above 300 members the expense would be significant to travel to UM. I sure would rather go to An Arbor that to the Stink but it is our new conference and we need to wave that flag there.

Re: Band of Distinction
More important for our program. It will be our first Sun Belt game ever, against our biggest rival, and it's on national TV. Both schools need to put on a good show with the whole conference watching.WVAPPeer wrote:More important to Whom? --- if you were a band member would rather perform in the Big House or The Stink? - they are no different than the football players wanting to be on the Big Stage ---JTApps1 wrote:I believe so and it honestly is more important to have them at that game than Michigan.T-Dog wrote:Would this be the first time the BoD makes the trip to GaSo?BTK2000 wrote:and the band is going to Ga Southern from what I hear.
