Re: What will we know and when will we know it?
I keep hearing comments about us looking/ being smaller.....the philosophy of recruiting smaller faster linemen that served us well during our Champipnship runs no longer works. The previous staff never recognized this and we are paying for that now. Additionally a couple of years of cross fit training ruined us. On sportscenter yesterday they were saying the most important hire a program can make id their strength coach. I believe we are on the right track but it will take another year or 2 to fix the recruiting missteps between 2007 and 2013.

I was thinking and seeing the same exact thing. Looking at Bobo back there taking kickoffs looked like a high school kid. We have no mass all of our guys are small and thin. Granted half the team is Fr or So but even looking at all of GSU's skill position players and they look like men. In fact I've always thought this for the last six years or so. Perhaps it's S&C and the players we are recruiting but it's getting more and more noticeable about the size difference with every game we play..mountaineerman wrote:Please correct me if I'm wrong.it seems to me that every team we play looks so much bigger ,more athletic, and more physical.I know it's michigan but I caught some of gsu ncsu they looked huge .I have seen this over last few years.

The size (height, mostly) of Michigan's defensive secondary and the size (height, mostly) of their receivers hurt us.
I was impressed with Upshaw and Lamb and actually thought our OL did a decent job. The defense has some work to do, but I think we can make some steps forward this year. 2015 should be a good one for us.

Re: What will we know and when will we know it?
We had smaller players even by FCS standards during the 3-peat. We had an all-star coaching staff plus Dillard as S&C. Elliot taught an undersized OL to move their feet and use blocking schemes. That opened the door for speedy players to make plays.
Kent was a good S&C coach on his time (09-11) but there was only so much he could do with lackluster linemen recruiting and a staff that was divided.
Then when we started to get bigger on the lines, Kareem Young's program didn't produce. If we could go to the Crossfit games and do calisthenics, then we'd do really well.
