App State VB v. Maryland Terrapins 6:55 PM HCC
So here we are folks, at the last game of the ASU Black & Gold Challenge with our awesome volleyball team gaining momentum and rolling to a university all-time best 10 - 0 start in their first season in the Sun Belt Conference. Yesterday, our Apps dispatched conference foe Ga State in straight sets to record ASU's first ever win in any Sun Belt sport. Earlier today, the Apps dispatched a very good Radford team--again in straight sets. Maryland recovered from an upset by Radford yesterday to take a straight set win over Ga State.
Up next in the final match of the tourney is the contest between the two best teams in the field---App State (10-0) and Maryland (7-1). Once again, it's the best ticket in town for tonight.
Give 'em Hell, Apps!!

I like how they get out the broom for the team circle because it was a SWEEP in 3 sets.

I have tried to listen to the athlete interviews. Nothing against other sports, but these student-athletes seem very well spoken. Clear, articulate, and I am not catching any grammar mistakes.

VB usually leads the way in the classroom for ASU athletics. Seems like they have had several team members post perfect 4.0 averages in recent semesters and are representing ASU in fine fashion, both on the court and in the classroom.

I know field hockey generally has good GPA and APR numbers. I am not surprised that VB would not be also high. Of course with FH now off the main campus and not having video coverage we don't get to see the post-game interviews, though I am not sure if that was ever the case of having post-game interviews even when we could watch the FH team at KBS.DoubleA wrote:these student-athletes seem very well spoken. I know it is a money issue and past viewing numbers could very well indicate no need to show MSoc, WSoc, FH on AppStateTV, but with live FB gone I really do wish these other sports could be picked up again. I know cameras and such would not be cheap, but it would make the AppStateTV more compelling. I did not nor do not watch everything AppStateTV has to offer but I would try and catch a few minutes of every team each year. It was nice having the option and knowing all the stadium sports were being shown.

better be in the top 25 this week, they aren't just winning, they are pretty much dominating.

They are dominating. It is not a a super strong schedule but 11-0 and all D1 wins means something. It is also not bottom of the barrel. I think 20-25 would be great.

We have noticed that many colleges air live video programming for men's soccer. Navy, UMBC, Davidson, and Elon, are examples that come to mind. My wife and I have often commented that ASU should do the same for Mountaineer sports programs. Live sports programming is natural fit for our university, as broadcasting majors could benefit from the experience.

And they were broadcast when all the sports used KBS stadium. Not every game, but some of the games. I think it might be lack of cameras and not wanting to risk breaking one in transit from one venue to another. I don't know how many cameras we have and how they are stored/set up for each game.DoubleA wrote:I know it is a money issue and past viewing numbers could very well indicate no need to show MSoc, WSoc, FH on AppStateTV, but with live FB gone I really do wish these other sports could be picked up again. I think the reason is we don't have an internet feed to Ted Mac field, nor to the new FH field. Though getting a line to the FH field should not be that hard. There is the old Lowe's building near State Farm that I bet has internet and there is the fuel depot and building at State Farm that I bet is also wired. It would be not free but it is not like it is miles away but only a few hundred yards.
I guess we need a benefactor.

Re: App State VB v. Maryland Terrapins 6:55 PM HCC
Right now the Ted and the FH stadiums don't have the set up to do ljve broadcasts. Heck, the FH stadium doesn't even have locker rooms. Both teams have to bus to KBS to use the locker rooms there after a match.
Plus we don't have the staff to cover every sporting event if there's multiple ones going on at the same time.
Even going to the Holmes Center, the AV people say its like setting up at a road game there because its a Convocation Center, not a sports arena.
