We don't slide at Appalachian State. It's a sign of weakness.

Very strong hire considering the time of year and current state of our athletic program.

My thoughts exactly. Although she doesn't have the Head Coaching experience she has certainly worked with some of the best coaches and programs around. I expect her to be successful continue the growth of this program. Hire looks good for now.IGgreer wrote:Very strong hire considering the time of year and current state of our athletic program.

Glad to hear she will not be ripping anybodies f(*&%(^$* head off..... She seems articulate and well spoken. Our ladies need to be built back up. Good luck coach!asutrnr81 wrote:“I’m extremely grateful and humbled to join the Appalachian State family,” Elderkin said. “I learned a lesson in life that you win with people and it is the people at Appalachian State that makes this the right opportunity for me at this time. I am truly excited for the opportunity to inject my spirit in the terrific women in our program and inspire them to succeed on and off the court.”....
Now that is the way to get things started. We all might learn something from that comment.

Any news on the old assistants? How many will she need to bring in? That's a lot to ask of a first time head coach with such a small time frame.

Well, I was told it was going to be an Asst at LSU, but I was guessing Tasha Butts. Wrong! lol. I was thinking a Butts from Midgeville, Ga had to be destined to be a coach for App St. I think we have a good one though, and this team could end up being very good this year.

The part of me that likes dark humor wants to see a quote at some point like " Wort. Hire. Ever. I am predicting multiple large law suits to come to light against this person. Better to hire Beelzebub." Not for a App hire, but somewhere, maybe GaSo, and that being the best quote they could get they still post the quote.
This is my very generic signature added to each post.

Impressive resume! Working with Pat Summitt and Debbie Ryan, she had to pick up good fundamentals.

After all this, maybe we should consider making Rick Beasley the permanent AD. Just thinking.

I like what I see here. I think she will be an outstanding coach. Bet our women win the Sun Belt within the next few years.

I think this really goes to show how easy it is to find a coach for men's and women's basketball who is qualified on paper. There are simply tons of Division 1 assistants who would jump at any chance to take over a D1 team that has a moderate chance of competing in it's conference. There are many more qualified coaches than there are positions. The odd thing is that it feels more and more like picking the right candidate from all the qualified applicants is a total crap shoot.

The problem is, there are thousands who don't want to live in the Boone climate and as many more who do want to do so. Finding the match and coming up with the salary are other aspects.
