Previous staff didn't have any problem molding it into winning seasons.

Previous staff wasen't trying to compete at the FBS level with that same group.
How we'll did this staff perform with them last year?

I'm starting to think the Southern Miss loss has affected the team in some way. we win that game and it gives the players confidence, but we lost and then got demoralized at GaSo and at Home now against USA.

sad to say, but a win against Liberty is what the team NEEDS at this point just to boost confidence and a feeling that they can win

Winning starts in the off season with recruiting, we had a decent year of recruiting but its going to take a year or two for those kids to grow up. Many people on here talk about the previous regime and how successful they were, people forget Satterfield was a coach for us during that successful period, and at the same time the previous regime was not consistently competing at the FBS level.
We are just going through growing pains right now, Georgia Southern has alot of pieces falling into place right now, a new stadium, competing at the FBS level and an aggressive coach, all of which probably helped in recruiting, They also have a more favorable schedule this year than we did. Georgia Southern is going to lose more starters next year than we will, I will be curious to see if their record will be as good next year.

I do think Satt would build it with HS players but I don't think he will be here to finish. We are going to be better next year but if we don't win another game, a new coach will take control of the young talent.

We are still young but a lot of our top players are juniors and sophomores. We should still be better. The only position where I will fully excuse us usually is WR because we are young but even there we are having drops from some of our experienced guys as well.
You can't accept excuses from one position and not realize that it affects the entire program. If our receivers are a weakness then the defense is going to load up the box or blitz to stop the run because they don't fear our passing game. Yes our top players are juniors and seniors but other than Kendall Lamm are any of them "really" any good at this level?
I assume by your screen name that you are a recent graduate. So I say congratulations and welcome to the real world. I hope your boss does not fire you when you make your first mistake.

Maybe last year wasn't the staff's fault rather the drop from a steadily declining program was greater last year. We lost three games in 2006 and 2007 combined. Since 2008 was lost three games per year for three straight years and then four games the next two years. The records were indeed winning ones but they also showed decline.

We're getting manned up every game now, because teams are seeing that our WRs can't beat man coverage and separate. If you watch last night's game, USA had both of their Safeties playing up with their corners pressing at the line. they had no respect for our passing game, and we gave them no reason to

when our WRs did beat them, Lamb overthrew the ball

Not much more can be said that hasn't already been said about the game last night and the season to date.

There is a poll on the SBC board, asking which team is Troy likely to beat. Of the 40 folks who have responded to this point, 52% say App State.

I think it safe to say that many SBC fans have their games with us circled as wins.

Regardless of our circumstances at the moment, we will just have to persevere and not panic, put some faith in our youth and our staff's ability to recruit. I think it is painfully obvious that we are not FBS-ready talent-wise. USA was bigger, stronger, and faster than we were. We are likely to find that to be the case moving forward. We truly will have to adopt the moniker of walking before we run. Yes, it will be difficult to endure the rest of the season but we have no choice but to trust that the gameplan will get us where we need to be.

I never thought we would be Western Kentucky-like in our transition. They were terrible their first several years in transition but they have been able to come out on the other side and create a respectable program. I have to hope we can do the same.

Great for those two Moore recruits. Make no mistake I bitched as much as anybody about the lack of " big boy" recruits over the last few years of coach Moore and I wanted Saterfield to get the head caching job but I am sick and tired of hearing how bad the talent left from the Moore years is.

No one is bitching about the skill players that were recruited under Moore. It's been about the true big boys up front that have been lacking

94, no denial here, we had big time recruiting issues on both the O and D lines from 07 forward. I'm just ready for Satterfield to own this team. You don't solve problems until you own them.

And yes, many are bitching about receivers and DB's

WKU had also recently won a national championship. We haven't had a championship level team since 2009 so we are already farther behind than they were.

I would say that he is owning the problem. He got rid of Price and others and he pulled the trigger on switching QB's early in the season and has stuck with him. I don't expect SS to outwardly state that he has a mess to clean up.

True - plus other starters from last year not starting now - to name a few - Fisher, Deuce, Counts, Corbin ---

They were 5-6 years removed from their national championship. Like us they saw a decline, after their 2002 championship they went 9-4, 9-3, 6-5, 6-5, 7-5. Their first year in FBS was 2008. They went 4-32 in their first three years. They were 7-5, 7-6, 8-4 the next three years with one bowl appearance.

Using the philosophy of expect the worse and hope for the best, I think that this would be the worst case scenario for us. I don't think that our program will take three years to come around.

No Excuses ! We need to play for pride while our youth is growing up. Just want to see some of the grit that has surfaced in the past.

Edited the defense as I did originally have 12 but had 11 on offense.
I pulled Troy's starters to see what we are up against in our next conference game. Troy offense consist of 3 Seniors, 5 Juniors, 3 Sophs and one Freshmen. Defense starts 5 Seniors and Juniors and one Soph. They don't seem to have the same size up front that we have been dealing with. Bodes well. Paraphrasing the immortal words of Lou Brown, "win this week and then win the next week and that is two in a row. That's called a winning streak. It has happened before."

Thanks Hap. I dont know why I thought they were within a few years of their NC. Either way it shows you can be successful even after a rough start.

Exactly. Satt wouldn't do that but deep down he knows Moore's last few years, team and his kid, bogged the program down. We will rise people. Hang in there. Go App!

As the old saying goes, the game is won in the trenches. Both of our OL and DL need to beef up to FBS levels even in the SBC. I think we need to expand our recruiting areas outside of the FL,GA,and SC. The 6'2 and 275 lb lineman are not going to move anybody in this league.
