With a young team, and no proven senior/junior leadership (that is, to date nobody(ies) has stepped up to the plate as a leader(s) as far as I can tell), the Kitties could very well sneek up on us.

There is no logical reason for it because there should be no way ccc beats us, but I'm having a lot of doubts about this game. This is their Super Bowl. If they beat us and finish 2-9, their fans will hang a banner and swear they had a successful season. Their coaches know exactly what to expect from us. They are probably already practicing to defend the plays we will run in our first offensive series. They are going to have the Can'ts fired up.

Somebody on our roster has to step up and become a leader this week.

ASU will beat Western by 20+ points.

With ASU in a "can't afford to lose" situation, and Western being a very bad team, there will be no sneaking up and surprising the Mountaineers this time around. Coaching insight and a burst of excitement from WCU can't make up for a yawning gap of talent and skill and a team that knows it has to win to keep a playoff dream alive.

The thing i don't like about this game is WCU having new former ASU coaches. We know how Jerry Moore is. He is nice as can be. I am afraid we will get a lead and lay off the gas way too much in an effort to not embarrass his former coaches, which i respect, but would not practice. This will keep it close, not western suprising us. It is a sport and a business, lay the wood whenever possible. 20 pts is the most I see us winning by. 79-35 will never happen.

Are we their 'Super Bowl'? Probably, but the same can be said for Chattanooga, Elon, Coastal and Samford who were all trying to get the monkey off their back. Getting the other team's best shot is nothing new to this group and all those teams are much better than Western.

App historically has lost some games to far inferior teams at bad moments with a couple of them coming against the Whee. A particular VMI game also comes to mind. This game could define the Cats season as a success and you just know the former App coaches at Whee would love to put this notch on the belt. Never underestimate a wounded animal...even a Catamount!

Two things worry me:
1. THEY HAVE FOUR!!!! OF OUR FORMER COACHES WHO KNOW EVERYTHING THERE IS TO KNOW ABOUT APP STATE! Need I say more?
2. We fans all think that because our playoff backs are against the wall and it's a must-win that we'll come out on fire and destroy them! But--ALL of our So Con games are huge and, let's face it, we've come out flat TWICE now and it's bitten us in the behind.

Bottom line here? Records and stats will mean NOTHING this Saturday! WHOEVER HAS THE MOST PASSION ON THIS DAY WILL HOLD THE KEY TO THIS GAME! It will come down to App having more of it because of where we are at this point in the season, or Western having more of it because....well, it really is the sole purpose of their existence to beat ASU! Pathetic as that is, it's true. We NEED it more than they do because our postseason depends on it. What concerns me is that Western will WANT it more.

I'm hoping/praying/counting on our guys to go into this game with the mindset that they better take the Cats out of this thing from the moment the first whistle blows and not let up for one instant! JM needs to forget that he's a gentleman and remember that four of his former comrades are on the OTHER SIDELINE now--WEARING PURPLE!

BEAT WESTERN! GO APPS!!!!

They started practicing for us last spring. I assure you that 2-9 with a win against APP will be a very successful year for wcu.

If our team comes out as flat as they have several games this year, the jug could reside in Cullowhee for a year.

Went down there week before last. Just as you leave Sylva there is a big a-- road sign dedicated to beating APP State. Has been there awhile. They were selling "Beat App State" T-Shirts two weeks ago minimum... I have a daughter who is a baker in Cherokee, she has been swamped with cake orders for "Jugs" and beat App State tail gate stuff. (She wears her ASU black and gold why she bakes them). They want this game... The Cats are ready. GO MOUNTAINEERS.

Do we not think that this familiarity and desire to win goes both ways? That is 5 coaches on their staff that we know inside and out. It isn't like Brad Glenn will be calling plays we haven't seen a million times ourselves and you can bet that our guys want to go beat their old coaches just as bad as they want to beat us.
