Appalachian taking its time in search for AD
Re: Appalachian taking its time in search for AD
part of this is the committee knows they have a competent intern AD in Beasley who will do a good job running the athletic dept. They don't need to be in a hurry to hire anyone. I have no knowledge of course, but I wonder if Beasley has applied for the job?

Nah, where's the fun in that? It's always more enjoyable to just complain from afar!hapapp wrote:I appreciate everyone's take on the size of the committee. Perhaps, we should wait and see who they pick before we rush to judgement.

How many here have planned meetings for 19 people, it is extremely difficult to get 19 people in a room multiple times much less have them agree on something?
Sorry for "complaining", geez guys.

Yeah, it wasn't your post Saint. The one calling the program backward and such is just over-the-top ridiculous.Saint3333 wrote:How many here have planned meetings for 19 people, it is extremely difficult to get 19 people in a room multiple times much less have them agree on something?

It took from August to January for the Chancellor Search Committee to do their work.
We're fine with Beasley for now. Everyone needs to chill out.

I get your point and I don't dispute it is a valid one. However, I just don't want to prejudge the result.Saint3333 wrote:How many here have planned meetings for 19 people, it is extremely difficult to get 19 people in a room multiple times much less have them agree on something?

This should be who is hired! I have been told by many he wanted the job REALLY BAD when CC was hired!

No I am not, maybe it was bad timing I can't say, but I can say it was embarrassing.HkyMtneer wrote:My thought as well. Surely you kid, buffalo? No way this happened, right?NewApp wrote:manonabuffalo wrote:I swear we are the most backward athletic program when it comes to search committees and the hiring process. We even fumbled (no pun intended) the chancellor search and made that the most awkward hire of this year. Does she even know which team is playing on Saturday? I watched her clapping excitingly when Liberty scored and someone had to pull her aside and tell her the OTHER team scored
You're kidding.

Who has prejudged the result, this is a comment on the decision to create a very large committee? You may be reading more into the statement than is there. They may make a great hire, but that will not change the fact that the committee was too large. We feel the need to include too many factions within the university to be politically correct sometimes. Get nine smart people into a room, two within the department, one student athlete, three university officials outside of the department, three trustee type non-university members.hapapp wrote:I get your point and I don't dispute it is a valid one. Re: Appalachian taking its time in search for AD
I think you will find that the committee to select the search firm is really a group of key donors and the school wants their support. This eliminates some of the second guessing after the hire. In the end it is probably more symbolic than anything else, but these are usually people that do not like to be ignored.
Using a search firm is probably the way to go but you will likely spend about $100,000 with them to make the hire. That chunk of change is another reason you have asked those 19 people to be involved.

I've looked at the list and know 65% of them personally, it may be more symbolic but the makeup isn't as you describe. I don't have an issue with any one person on the list, some may be getting the wrong idea, I'm against the concept of have 19 people on a committee of this nature.Nugget49 wrote:I think you will find that the committee to select the search firm is really a group of key donors and the school wants their support. Waddell could be a strong possibility. He jumps around a lot, but he would probably stay here for quite a while.1987mountaineer wrote:This should be who is hired! I have been told by many he wanted the job REALLY BAD when CC was hired!

Re: Appalachian taking its time in search for AD
Is every aspect of The Athletic Department done by committee, from the selection of the AD to the offensive play calling on Saturday?
