We did and were lucky to get the last one the way it played out. We stoned them on 1 st and 2nd down, no TO, thankfully they threw incomplete to stop the clock on 3rd so we could get the ball back. Remember the Meadors pass was 40 ish yards. and we ended up scoring with 20 or so seconds on the clock and took a TO in the locker room with us. With the Momentum we had no reason for not getting a to on their 2nd down to preserve some time. Got the feeling he was looking for a FG and just a sportscenter catch kept that from happening.
Dude! You are really reaching for something to complain about! We didn't use a TO because we effectively used the sideline, incomplete pass and first down to stop the clock. That's what any coach would do! We connected with a miracle pass on the 1 yard line....a play called by those coaches who were apparently playing for the field goal by your account. We all know you aren't happy about coaching, but you are just looking for things to complain about here!!!! Ridiculous!!!
Dude! Catch a clue, talking about when THEY had the ball. At least 30 sec. ran off the clock between 2nd and 3rd down, my whole section and half the stadium were yelling TO. I am not reaching here, complete rookie mistake.
Well, OK then...The FANS in your section wanted it. That settles it then! We all know that the FANS YELLING for something is an authoritative source of knowledge. We scored with 20 seconds to spare. Had the pass fallen incomplete, since we had those TOs left, we could have run several more plays. WE SCORED AND TOOK THE LEAD, BUT YOU ARE FINDING SOMETHING TO COMPLAIN ABOUT! Get over it. Stop being a whiner!

I would agree with you in that you want to save the timeouts for the O, except in college football...the clock stops after every first down till the ball is set...we run a spread "uptempo" you use timeouts on D(save 1 for kicking). I agree with not using one on first down but after you stop them on 2ed forcing a 3rd and long you wouldn't think they would want to let 40 sec. run off the clock. The truth is we got bailed out by a SCtop10 play(I loved the play calling). I would rather have an extra 40 sec at the end of a half/game from around the 50 yrd line on O than lose 40 sec and gain 1 time to stop the clock because of the type of system we run. If you do not agree with it that okay I don't care just trying to show the "other side" of thinking does have a strong case. No need to really attack, just back up your points and agree to disagree.

You never save the timeouts for your offense. As a defense the only way you stop the clock is a TO. Conversely you can run out of bounds, get a first down or clock the ball on offense. In no scenario does it make sense to save TOs for your offense. Not in college or NFL football. This is really basic football 101 clock management stuff.

Had he used them when we were on defense we would have had more than a minute and could stop the clock whenever we wanted with a spike, or incomplete pass or run out of bound or first downs. Saving TO's for your offense makes ZERO strategic sense. Is was a small miscue by Satt on an otherwise very good coaching performance. You dont only look for way to improve and get better when you lose but when you win as well. Its ok to look and see how you get better and look at your mistakes even in victory.

I tend to agree with how it was handled. Had there been a penalty or negative play that put ULM in third and long, may have been different but stopping the clock on a very manageable third and five when ULM had scored touchdowns on their last two drives could definitely have backfired.

If they get five yards, the clock stops again to move the chains and ULM has a fresh set of downs with about a minute and a half left to go less than 30 yards for a field goal. That would have pushed their lead back to two possessions heading into halftime.

Arguments can be made either way but I didn't think it was the wrong move.

Mike thanks for stating that never thought of it that way. Still would prefer stopping it but I understand where your coming from. I guess really it's only a good move if it works out and a bad one if it doesn't.

Saving the timeout for the offense opens up the middle of the feild for play calling. I am in agreement that you use your TO's for defense but maybe the coaches were playing it conservative given the likelihood that we would not get a shot at a last second touchdown. We have a young offense playing a very good defense and SS may have been playing to avoid a turnover or pick six since we were getting the ball to start the second half. I know that many fans think we always be in warp speed but there are times to play it correctly, especially with a young QB.

I guess that varies on the coaches philosophy. In this case, knowing if the defense stops them, we will get the ball back, I save one timeout for the offense. In the case we don't stop them and they get a first down, they will have less time on the clock to try to score again saving the TO. If we call the timeout, they have more time -- Like Mike mentioned.

I understand that Meadors made a terrific catch down to the one and that is the reason we scored. But, do you not think the coaches knew we were going to have to take a shot down field if we wanted to score again before half?

Overall, my whole point is for some people on this board, its damn if you do and damn if you don't. If we do take that time out to stop the clock between 2nd and 3rd down, we don't have any timeouts left. What happens if we get down to the 9 yard line and its 3rd and goal with say 12 seconds left. Obviously, we have to throw the ball. If Lamb gets sacked, clock runs out and people lambaste Satterfield for not having a time out left in that situation.

Again, it all depends on different coaching styles and philosophies. However, it seems like no matter what, people are going to find a way to complain about something on this board. Even if it means making stuff up like "they saved us by throwing it on 3rd down" when they actually ran the ball.
