The forecast for Saturday is 40 degrees with a good chance of rain. I have seen nothing from Ark St. so I don't have any idea how this will effect their play. I have noticed that a lot of folks seem to think that cold wet weather gives us an advantage. I know we played well in bad weather against GA St. but I'm just not sold on us being a bad weather team. I understand that we are from Boone and Boone has weather but we are a spread offense that at times depends on speed. Just wanted to see what some other folks thought. Does cold wet weather give us an advantage on Saturday ?

I think our weather advantage has been overstated as well.

But being the road team on a rainy day helps since it will likely keep some fans away, which makes noise and crowd involvement less of a factor.

I also feel the weather stuff if blown way out of proportion. We recruit most of our kids out of FL,GA and SC, not exactly the snowbelt. Weather does have an effect if it changes your offensive game plan ala Georgia State. If you are super pass happy it can have an effect but if your ground and pound nothing really changes.

You do tend to use more Vaseline when it is cold...

Early in the year when we were trying to air it out we were not going to be a bad weather team with that scheme. Now that we run the ball so often I think that helps our cause if the weather is bad. Of course don't tell that to Ga Southern....they would blame the weather when playing us in November at home every year, trying to run the ball every down.

I really don't think that 40 degree weather at THEIR stadium is going to be a big factor in our favor. Like others, I think it's over stated. The Georgia State game was bizarre in that I've never seen a team looking so miserable (as GSU did). It was definitely an advantage on that day, but that was a snowy, windy cold day against a team that played in a dome.

Our guys might be a bit more accustomed to playing with cold hands, so maybe we get an advantage in the turnover margin....we can always hope.

Thing about it is we'll be practicing in it all week. Our indoor facility is still being built, so we have to practice outside in this weather.

I think that could affect this game in more ways than the actual game day conditions. I know focus in practice is more difficult when weather is bad.

I think its more of a mental thing, our guys tend to look at bad weather as a positive thing, we are mountain men, we are suppose to be able function in poor weather etc, the football culture at App is once you put on the black and gold, its a given you will learn to play in poor weather, or you will not be a mountaineer for long. Reminds me of the Minn Vikings under Bud Grant in the 70s, during home games he would not allow heaters on the sidelines for his team, but he encouraged the opposing team to use them. Grants rationale was if you know there was no heater you would concentrate more on football and less on trying to keep warm. It still amazes me watching those old clips from the 70s seeing Viking game with the temp below zero and Viking players basically wearing wind breakers for the entire game.

Beyond exited the Vikings have moved back outdoors. They host Chicago on Dec 28th, should be a cooooooold one.

While the weather advantage may be overstated, I am happy that it is on our conference mates minds when they come to Boone.

They looked good yesterday and it was frigid down in the bowl.

Bad weather is only an advantage to a ground and pound team. No college program has cold and snow during the pre-season camp and for nearly all of the season. It isn't like we recruit kids from Alaska. No 18-22 year old kids get enough exposure to get used to playing in crappy conditions. It is all mental. Just like you see the guys in short sleaves playing in arctic conditions. No passing offense likes playing in windy, rainy or even snowy conditions. We honestly just got a bad team at home on a bad weather day and we were undoubtably more fired up, better prepared and more talented. I always get a kick out how the media portrays Lambeau (frozen tundra) as an advantage. There are only a few games a year played there in horrible conditions. Typically Green Bay is just good- advantage.
