I have to disagree. I don't think we are any more "obsessed" than alumni from any other UNC System institution, including the one at the state capital. This is a major national news story that is continuing to break by the moment, thus the numerous posts are in reaction to multiple events. The "flagship" has boasted for decades that they were above any reproach, and now they are receiving their comeuppance. While I find it entertaining, I, and our posters, are not obsessed with ANY other university outside of Boone, NC. If it bothers you so much, you may always choose not to open the thread.mikeyosef wrote:If anyone graduating from Appalachian State needed any more proof that too many of us are obsessed with UNC Chapel Hill, the continued comments on "The Carolina Way" surely provides it. I could care less what happens to their athletic programs, though I do care how it may reflect on the UNC system as a whole of which my beloved Alma Mata is a part.
Frankly seeing these posts is like listening to some high school girl talk about how she’s not envious of the homecoming queen, then going on and on and on about how the home coming queen doesn’t look good or smells or whatever the heck…it’s like someone scratching their nails across a chalk board……PLEASE, give it a break!!!!!

Re: The Carolina Way (Cont'd)
got to understand also mikeyosef that this is a school that has thru the years directly interfered with App business. Case in point, I think we were trying to set up a doctoral program, I believe last year, Peacock and others had been working on it for years, big day comes, everything looks good, then the unexpected happens the BOT for the state turns us down. Peacock shocked, finds out that UNC played a role in denying us the doctorial, (Peacock later went to the, I believe the Winston Salem Journal, and had them do an article on this matter) and this wasn't the first time they have interfered in our business. Their arrogance and determination to control other schools in the Carolinas has in my opinion, made them the most hated school in the NC system, we try and make ourselves better, and they stop us simply because they see what we are doing as a threat to their status quo of remaining the perceived flag ship of North Carolina. I will be the first to admit I'm loving every minute of this, yes, its very petty, but karma is a bitch, you want to treat other schools like they are your play toy, don't expect sympathy from us when you crash and burn.

It was a Dr. of Psychology. We crossed our T's and dotted our i's hired the right professors(yes there is a difference in type of professors for different types of research) had everything ready to go and as it has been stated we were screwed. So sorry if you don't like some of us laughing as gas is thrown on the fire.moehler wrote:got to understand also mikeyosef that this is a school that has thru the years directly interfered with App business. For the record, I am not WVApp's parent. I'd be 156!

The Durham district attorney has dropped assault charges against former UNC basketball player, current Charlotte Hornet P.J. Hairston. Charges came after a fight during a YMCA basketball game in Durham, victim Kentrell Barkely requested they be dropped.
Wonder what that cost?

Here's an unvarnished point of view from a once proud UNC alum. Bet there are many others who feel this way, as well.

Re: The Carolina Way (Cont'd)
A good read, but the article still attempts to point fingers at other schools. He also doesn't go far enough to talk about what the NCAA should do, only says any faculty who don't think academics are not first should be fired.
First and foremost, UNC CHeat should have a basketball and football death penalty, anything short of that is flat out wrong. Using his words, that is the only way to send a message to all these "other" schools that are doing it too (according to most tar holes). If they slap CHeats wrists then the message is, UNC CHeat is too big to fail.

Re: The Carolina Way (Cont'd)
I don't see any way in the world they get the death penalty. Big time collage football and basketball has absolutely nothing to do with academics, it is all about fame and fortune. You do not get an athletic scholarship to study, you get it to play football or basketball in the vast majority of cases.manonabuffalo wrote:A good read, but the article still attempts to point fingers at other schools. and I forgot to add ESPN would not allow the death penalty anyway.NewApp wrote:RP.bcoach wrote:I don't see any way in the world they get the death penalty. And therein lies the root of the problem. ESPN. Its why I stopped watching anything on their stations outside of App games or occasional other games I have an interest in. Nothing but a propaganda machine and the ultimate puppeteer.bcoach wrote:and I forgot to add ESPN would not allow the death penalty anyway.NewApp wrote:RP.bcoach wrote:I don't see any way in the world they get the death penalty. Re: The Carolina Way (Cont'd)
even before all this came out, the NCAA basically said they would never give the death penalty again. They didn't think it would take SMU as long as it did for them to recover. They seem to have a lot of regret after they saw what the death penalty did to SMU. Personally, I think all bets are off on what penalties, if any, Carolina gets. I say this because 2 years ago, Miami got caught red handed with a boaster, who is now in prison, for years paying off players, arranging sex for players, etc, just about anything illegal this guy had a hand in it, plus with their past records of getting in trouble with the NCAA, you would have thought the NCAA would have come down hard on them, instead, the case quietly went away, and Miami basically walked away with no penalties. They deserve to be hit hard, but we just will have to wait and see.
