A request for appreciation
Rarely is there a topic brought up on MMB where the overwhelming majority agree.
That said, I would like everyone to take a collective breath and appreciate something:
When we lost to Liberty on October 11th we became 1-5 on the year.
Today, we beat the reigning Sun Belt champs at their house. We are now 5-5. There is a good chance at finishing our first year in the FBS with a .500 record.
Was special teams an issue? Yes. Is there more work to be done? Absolutely.
But we just beat the CONFERENCE CHAMPS!!! Who predicted a win at Jonesboro on October 11th?
My favorite App State phrase is "It's Great to Be a Mountaineer!" - Today's game was the embodiment of that phrase. A hodgepodge group of SoCon/Sun Belt players who hit the lowest of the low are now riding high all within a matter of weeks!
Be proud, folks! This is our team!
The best part? We're only getting better.
This is why that #1 recruiting class in the Sun Belt was such a big deal back in February!
It's Great to Be a Mountaineer!!!

Re: A request for appreciation
Well said. A month ago, I was convinced we would not win another game this season. This team could have spiraled downward and phoned in the rest of the season. But they did a 180 and won 4 straight against some legit teams. We've got a couple of games left, but I don't think it's too early to call this season a success!

App JV team looks pretty good. The next two years should be fun.

Re: A request for appreciation
What a win ! This all started with us turning up the defensive pressure several weeks ago which just happened to coincide with our offensive line change in personnel and dedication to the run. I am happy for Coach Satt and all of the other coaches tonight as well as all of the players. I know that we might not be exactly where we want to be but we have damn sure turned the corner with this team.

I think some of that appreciation also needs to be funneled toward Coach Satterfield and his staff. They appear to have worked hard to figure some things out and make some changes. Let's hop enough has been done until now to move special teams up on the list.

Awesome win! I felt the HC loss was "Rock" bottom, but who could have predicted such a huge turnaround so fast? Kudos to the team, SS, and all involved. We Are Back!

Re: A request for appreciation
I meant for the appreciation to be towards everything. Including the coaches. Satt has endured so much undue criticism by MMB posters. He deserves high praise and that includes his staff!goapps93 wrote:I think some of that appreciation also needs to be funneled toward Coach Satterfield and his staff. Better enjoy these last couple games, because it is going to be one loooong offseason waiting for next year to get here. We should be loaded.

I was the one who named them a glorified JV team and to give them time.TheMoody1 wrote:AppState89 wrote:Well stated....Not a bad team right now for a lot of Soph and Fresh starting.....![]()

But i have to admit, this team and coaching staff have come together like a perfect storm,
I am so proud of them for NEVER giving up.
I am also happy for them because they stuck together and are showing everyone what it means "to be a Mountaineer"

I agree he deserved a ton a praise right now but I would disagree with the criticism he received being undue. He made a bunch of mistakes, to his credit he has learned and gotten much better from it.

Re: A request for appreciation
I had complained earlier this year (after South Alabama and Liberty) about the lack of physicality, lack of preparation, and lack of adjustments. I never called for anyones head, but definitely wanted to see improvements.
I LIKE what I am seeing. Sometimes it takes hitting rock bottom to get your attention, and I think the Liberty game did this. Since then this TEAM has been on a mission. If we can get the special teams play staightened out the sky is the limit. Thanks to the coaches and student athletes for turning this thing around. Great job.
This week is our bowl game this year. Take advantage of it. Continue the education. Keep growing.

Re: A request for appreciation
To be clear, I am not implying all criticism is undue at all. Every coach can be fairly criticized. But I saw posts on MMB before Troy that stated that Satt was "clearly" unable to motivate his team because he crossed his arms on the sideline and wasn't jumping up and down and doing cartwheels. That is the kind of undue criticism I was referencing.ASUPATCH wrote:APPARJ wrote:I meant for the appreciation to be towards everything. Including the coaches. Re: A request for appreciation
Gotcha, yeah the crossing arms stuff is silly, I directed my criticisms at coaching decisions which were warranted at the time. Like I said, he is figuring it out now and full steam ahead.
