Yeah, Cox clearly fumbled but that wasn't my point - it was that without a goal line camera I couldn't tell if he got he ball to the goal line before he lost control - all it takes is the nose of the ball to break the plane of the pylon ---

I see what you are saying but after watching it only a couple times even with the bad camera angle its pretty clear he was almost a full yard short when the ball came out. But in the future for closer calls it would be nice to have a better angles available.

Re: Sure is fun to read
Just to clear up a couple of points. I was quoting an Ark St fan in my first post. I said in the later post that TL slid late and the St. kid couldn't avoid him. Was saying that it was close but anytime a feet first sliding QB is hit in the head, either by pads or helmet, it's going to be called. Don't agree with the rule unless you launch yourself head first into another player.
Also the fumble I was talking about was when Cox ran up the middle late in the game and, after the mass stopped for a second or two the ball came shooting straight up in the air and landed back at the 6, where Lamm covered it. At first glance it sure looked like Cox was down and the ball was grabbed and thrown. We got a FG out of that one. The fumble on the edge diving for the pylon was a fumble. But still need goal line cameras.

On the Lamm recovered fumble I dont think it was an issue of him being down but rather that his forward progress had been stopped for a full two second and the should have blown it dead. Unless your interpreting stopped forward progress as being down.

for whatever reason I have noticed that saying you lost to App State is an insult in college football. Not you lost to a better team (or any team for that matter) but that you can't even beat App State. We even have a cameo in a major motion picture. Respect will be earned soon enough.BeauFoster wrote:Fans may not give us respect, but I guarantee the players and coaches who got their asses whipped by App this season know who we are and what we mean.

Re: Sure is fun to read
I was referring to both. As I said I haven't watched it again so I might change my mind once I do but watching it live it looked like, as you said, the whole mass stopped moving for 2 seconds and it also looked like everyone on the bottom was laying down. Again, only got a quick look and the replay angle was horrible but the way the ball came shooting out clearly someone did the old grab and pull. But even if he wasn't down the forward progress sure looked like it was stopped and should have been blown dead.ASUPATCH wrote:firemoose wrote:Just to clear up a couple of points. Just wanted to make sure ppl knew I wasn't talking about the fumble on the edge.

Re: Sure is fun to read
Bottom line is that App dominated them. Instead of complaining about the refs, their fans should just be grateful we handed them a couple breaks late and they were able to make the final margin look respectable.
As far as the replay overturns, I actually thought all three were correct. (That is, the original calls were wrong, and the replay official was correct to overturn them.)
However, I did feel like a key turning point was Satterfield's decision to call time out on A-State's possession following Cox's fumble. Prior to that, you could see him telling the official, "That's three," obviously referring to the replay reversals that went against us. Even though, again, I think all three were correct calls, I got the feeling that kind of lit a fire under the team, and I wonder if the decision to call time out was Satt's way of saying, "Screw this, these guys can't stop us. We should have had a touchdown there, and we're going to stop them and score anyway."
Either way, that call showed a lot of faith in the players, because it certainly could have blown up in his face had A-State scored on that drive.

I can see how three replay reversals can get under a coaches skin. Whether they are right or wrong is irrelevant. The boys in the striped shirts are supposed to get these calls right the first time. It would shake my confidence in their abilities.EastHallApp wrote:Bottom line is that App dominated them. Agreed, I pretty much lost it after that last reversal. My wife asked me if it was a bad call, and I said "I don't know... probably not... no, they were all good calls. I'm just frustrated." Wouldn't have been as bad if they'd just called them right on the field.AppSt94 wrote:I can see how three replay reversals can get under a coaches skin. Whether they are right or wrong is irrelevant. I was puzzled that the back judge threw a flag for a kick out of bounds that Lewis clearly caught in bounds. He was in position to make the proper call. I wonder if replay has become a crutch for the officialsEastHallApp wrote:Agreed, I pretty much lost it after that last reversal. Re: Sure is fun to read
As far as replay is concerned, I think officials have been advised to let certain plays evolve, and they are falling back on replay to get the call right. They are making the call that gives them the chance to get it right on review. I like replay, but felt like it was oversused a little bit on Saturday.

It's not like these games are major broadcast productions. Unless the review officials have additional camera angles that they don't show the viewing audience you can't always get a better view than what a properly positioned official has. I never saw a definitive camera angle on Cox's fumble. Was he down out of bounds before the ball got loose? The official was right there. He said so.

I think that your right BigC. I can understand the refs erring on the side of caution but some of these calls seem moronic given the position that these guys position themselves in. The ref on the kickoff was standing in perfect position to make the correct call.bigCasu wrote:As far as replay is concerned, I think officials have been advised to let certain plays evolve, and they are falling back on replay to get the call right.
