I am more then just satisfied at where we are right now. This has been GREAT and I just wish we could reward these guys with something like this. All these players on both teams have done such a fantastic job this year coming in as the Newbies and dominating the conference that I would love to see the NCAA show some love and make an exception to these transition rules. I don't believe anything like this has happened in the past with 2 transition teams and would love to see them give these guys a reward for there performance. I would hope the NCAA could show some flexibility and understand this would be great for the sport.
It can happen if not enough teams get to 6 wins. Otherwise, we knew the rules when we made the move. Let's not start sounding like Ga Southern fans.
All I am saying is rules can be changed and these are unusual circumstances. If wanting to get a reward for our guys that have performed so well makes me a GS fan then so be it. I would hope they would want the same thing. If money is so important to the NCAA I would guess this would be a game that would be better attended then a lot of current Bowl games.

This has got to be one if the biggest in-season turnarounds in college football history! To go from where we were to where we are is simply amazing. Kudos to all players and coaches on a remarkable turnaround and truly special No-Lose November.

What is so "unusual" that the rules should be changed? Our guys are getting rewarded.

I don't think there has ever been a similar situation with 2 rivalry schools (or any schools for that matter) that transitioned to FBS and played so well in their transition year. I am not saying we should replace any of the current bowl eligible teams but set up a separate 1 time only game to reward both these teams. It would be a great to do and quite frankly who would complain if the NCAA made this 1 time exception. I doubt the situation would ever happen again.

You're welcome, also! I happen to like my rose colored glasses and love my football team. These young players are gonna be a blast to watch for the next few years. I'm really excited to see our current red shirts play next year and see what excitement they will bring and let's see who we bring in to the family this signing day! We have an outstanding coaching staff headed up by a MOUNTAINEER who wants to be here and build his program. I love what I'm seeing from our Wofford ex-pat DC. #1 defense in the Belt already! I think if some of our negative Nellies would try on a pair of rose colored glasses, they might enjoy it.

Playing devils advocate here, but do any of you ever consider that the Sun Belt is weaker than the SoCon? I know we'd like to believe it's better and a step up, bigger stage, etc.. but both of us (GS and APP) have pretty much rolled through it. Of course yall improved greatly during the year after a slow start and we are undefeated after changing coaches, systems-to some degree, and replacing all of the running backs. I guess I'm wondering if the Sun Belt was a step up.. It has almost been too easy. Jut throwing that out there as food for thought..

That is an intersting take. IMO it is a step up (but not huge). For App I think the added travel requirements involved are tougher than the SOCON. For this season playing a few teams that are currently bigger on the lines (for now) than us is a challenge. It is dissapointing to read the attendance numbers at some of the stadiums. I guess the true comparison lies with the bottom feeders for both conferences. I have not kept up with the SOCON but after a quick look at the standings it appears that it was pretty much chalk. Who the heck is Mercer? Western has been a dormat for years and suddenly they tie for 2nd. I really want to think that our programs are just really solid and for years we were both borderline FBS anyway so the move wasn't so much a leep as it was more of a lateral move. For years I thought that App could easily (with added scholarships) compete in most of the lower tier FBS conferences. While I am ecstatic about our winning streak I am only surprised due to the fact that we are so young. It isn't like we were some run of the mill startup program.

Nope, have you seen the SoCon this year post exodus? WCU and UTC are best teams, that says a lot.

I have wondered this myself and think that it probably is a step up, competition wise, but not huge - and I'm looking at the SoCon as we left it, not as it stands today. I believe the top of the Belt is stronger than the top of the SoCon. The bottom is probably pretty equal amongst the two. The middle of the Belt is definitely stronger.
Give 'em hell!

Who the heck is Mercer?

Mercer is coached by Bobby Lamb, father of Taylor. Mercer is a football newbie but has a rich basketball tradition, defeating Duke in recent years.

Top to bottom, I definitely think the Sun Belt is stronger. But it's not exactly a ringing endorsement that two teams that were a combined 7-7 vs. the rest of the SoCon last year are looking at a likely 13-1 combined record vs. the Sun Belt this year.

if anyone paid attention to our coaching staff throughout the season, there was never any ounce of panic. I feel like they knew their personnel and what they could accomplish. The youth arguments from coach earlier in the season probably carried a lot more weight than one would like to admit.

Also, I love what appears to be such a business-trip attitude about our players now. We're not seeing as much excessive celebration and antics after simple tackles and touchdowns. They are taking care of business and going home (at least more than they have in a long time). I've never seen a team grow up so much throughout the course of a season.

As a rule I think the SBC is stronger, however both GaSo and App are used to winning and dominating. Our traditions and mindsets are to win, not just compete. Symbols like GATA and The Rock are metaphors for our attitudes. So for both of us it might be a bit of football culture shock to come in and win like both have in The Belt this season. I'm convinced it will continue for both schools.

Years ago back when APP FU and TheStink were all three rolling the SmallCon boasted a better RPI than The Sunbelt, as someone posted about 3 weeks ago. However, during our championship years APP, we win the current SunBelt, no problem. The SunBelt hasn't been easy as we saw during the first half of the season. It took a season and a half for our staff and players to become a team. Hopefully we can make some bowl noise next season.

Unless something bad happens between now and next year, both of us should go bowling and one of us will be the Sun Belt champion........ again. ;)
