Re: AD Search Update?
He did. He touched briefly on facilities improvements over the past 8-9 years, and the waiver request. He said they did it for the 14 seniors and the fans that would enjoy a bowl experience. I suppose he has been reading this board as he specifically mentioned "we knew what the rules were going in". He praised Satt. and the new hoops coaches. He said he expects the Holmes Center will start filling up soon
The ESPN guy closed the segment with he hopes the hire is Beasley.

Do we know for sure that Rick wants the permanent A.D. job? Has he formally applied for it?

Re: AD Search Update?
I think he is, and have no doubt he learned from Cobb's mistakes. I am no insider to the work environment in our Athletics Department, but if his staff supports him (and I don't know that they do), I don't think we need visionary leadership at this point. Just solid decision making and proper handling of the finances.

Re: AD Search Update?
We didn't hire a search firm to hire the guy who's already here. If we do, then everyone involved is stupid for wasting money.

Re: AD Search Update?
So App should either hire Beasley without considering any other candidates, or refuse to consider hiring him once they hire the search firm, even if none of the other candidates turn out to be better?T-Dog wrote:We didn't hire a search firm to hire the guy who's already here. With all due respect, why would we not want visionary leadership? We need a breath of experience and connections well beyond what Rick possesses. Rick can focus on execution without being the leader.

You're going to extremes here.EastHallApp wrote:So App should either hire Beasley without considering any other candidates, or refuse to consider hiring him once they hire the search firm, even if none of the other candidates turn out to be better?T-Dog wrote:We didn't hire a search firm to hire the guy who's already here. We have a 19-person search committee who elected to hire a firm that would screen candidates. If it was going to be Beasley, they wouldn't have hired the firm. And I really like Rick and hope he sticks around as associate AD.

Re: AD Search Update?
Rick is great at his current job. However, he is not full-time AD material. App needs to got out and make a strong hire here. An in-house hire would not be the smart move long term for this athletic department.

I don't understand how what I wrote is more "extreme" than what you wrote. You said App would be stupid to hire Beasley after hiring the search firm. Logically, then, you are saying that to avoid being stupid and wasting money, we would have either needed to hire Beasley without ever hiring the search firm, or now that we've hired the search firm, we must hire someone else as AD.
Maybe you are saying App should have conducted a search on our own, without the firm. But in that case, the search firm would be a waste of money regardless of whom we ultimately hire.

Re: AD Search Update?
And the point of your analysis is? Why is it necessary to pick apart a comment when the intent of the comment is clear?
Re: AD Search Update?
I like Rick Beasley a lot...but people need to realize that the way someone administers when they're an interim isn't necessarily how they'll administer in a permanent role. Interims are pretty much playing with house money.
Also - I think our goal is to have someone who can take fundraising above and beyond what it is now, along with ideas on how to improve basketball attendance, marketing, scheduling, etc. Possible that Beasley could do those things - but there are also probably guys at smaller schools who are having success that deserve a look.
And it's funny to me that so many people love Beasley, then openly wonder what Cobb ever did for App. Seem to recall Beasley was 100% a Charlie Cobb hire.

I am assuming the intent of the comment is the same as its substance. If that's the case, I picked it apart because I disagree with it.Rekdiver wrote:And the point of your analysis is? Why is it necessary to pick apart a comment when the intent of the comment is clear?
If T-Dog's intended meaning was something different that what he actually wrote (e.g., he doesn't think Beasley should be the hire), then perhaps he will say so directly to clarify for me.
