Talking about a "War on men" is just fanning the flames. The real problem is the system via which sexual assault is "handled" on college campuses today. In this particular instance, Tanyi may well have gotten a raw deal, and there certainly is no due process. But at least equally often these things go the other way, and women can't get any traction let alone justice for legitimate claims.

One thing I feared from the Ray Rice situation was an increase in "false allegations" against athletes. Of course Rice was guilty as hell so that's not an argument. But its to the point now that many trophy wife/girlfriends of high profile athletes know they have them by the "balls" so to speak, and if they look at them the wrong way they can claim domestic violence/rape. True or not many sponsors will be lost and their place in sports and ability to earn a living could be a jeopardy. Sexual assault are still way under reported in this county but I would bet high profile cases will soon be over reported in the near future. $$$$$$ is essentially the root of all evil in this argument.

If you want to see somewhat if a 'war on men,' pay attention to the next commercial you watch. Watch how the man always plays the role of idiot.

To be fair, that's probably a pretty accurate portrayal

Since this story was referenced earlier in the thread...just thought I'd point out that Rolling Stone is walking back its UVa Rape Story:

http://www.usatoday.com/story/money/bus ... /19954293/

This is an example of why someone like Lanston Tanyi is suing. His name was dragged through the mud despite there being little factual evidence to corroborate the accusers claims. Situations like these make it harder for actual rape victims to be taken seriously, or have the courage to come forward, and it needs to stop.

I hope Tanyi wins his suit, and that the fraternity in the UVa story goes after Rolling Stone. Only financial penalties and people losing their jobs will actually cause campuses to put "Social Justice" BS aside and actually handle these things in a proper fashion.

Indeed, it's beginning to look strongly that the Rolling Stone's staffers didn't do their due diligence. The 911 alarm you hear is ringing in the ears of the tabloid's legal dept. They have a growing problem.

This is solely as situation where one side believes the story and its narrative are more important than the facts. Man, that really seems familiar in light of current events.

Well, we don't know the facts in this case but we do know that UVA has responded to a problem that has existed there that got very little attention in the past from the university.

Maybe... But it shouldn't be at the expense of potentially soiling an innocent person's reputation.

Not true! The fraternity was named, calling into question every one of its members. I don't pretend to know any of the facts or allegations from this case, but the 'reporting' by the Rolling Stone rises to the level of slander.

Actually the real answer is for campuses NOT to handle these things. When reported it should be handed over to the police and the universities stay out of it. When it comes to crime they are ill equipped to handle these problems. We have a judicial system, flawed as it is, for a reason.

Yup. Completely agree that the authorities should handle. That said - I feel like the police did look into the Tanyi (and I believe Ed Gainey was accused as well) matter and didn't pursue charges. What happened after that was a group of activist students deciding that wasn't good enough..and that somehow they weren't charged because they were football players. That is what led to the University hearings, etc. Ugly, ugly, stuff.

Sounds a lot like what is going on at Clemson because a Frat had a "Cripmas" party.

Yep. If a majority member treads too heavily on the egg shells, the social justice warriors are off to battle.

And here I was thinking "no Blood, no foul." ;)
