You don't really judge whether a school is "better" by SAT scores. Just because UNCW has better SAT scores doesn't mean it is better than App.

SAT's aside, our incoming freshmen gpa's are higher than uncw. We exceed 4.0 (can't remember the exact #) and are behind only unc, maybe state.

also, this analysis in this article measures average scores....ASU gets a lot more applicants and more incoming freshmen than uncw and unca....2 schools that were ahead of us in NC. unca and uncw generally have been right around or slightly above us, partly because they have a smaller pool of applicants, thus impacting the final average. UNCA, especially, has a very small concentrated group that applies...not as wide of a net and not as wide of an appeal.

Whatever happened to the housing market in 2008 will soon happen to colleges in the very near future. We are experiencing a tuition bubble. The price of tuition far exceeds the value and eventually kids will either stop going to college or default on their loans.

This bubble might actually be worse because a degree isn't anything but a piece of paper. I can go sell my house for less than I paid for it but I can't sell my degree.

You can't really look at GPA the same way anymore. So many of them are inflated with honors classes and AP classes that are not up to the rigor that they should be. The effort it use to take to get a 3.5 now gets you a 4.0. and those in the higher ends are 4.8+. GPA is getting to a pretty absurd point.

I don't know if it is state-wide or not but I would assume any high school that uses weighted GPAs do so for class rank, which is one data point for colleges to look at. Otherwise why bother with weighting classes. However the standard NC transcript includes both weighted and unweighted GPAs along with SAT and ACT and other state test scores.
