I had never been to Statesboro, and despite the nastiness of a few....well more than a few fans....I will go back.

Couple of points:
1. I feels so good to see it come together.
2. We can win anywhere if we can win in Statesboro.
3. Jamal Jackson was better today because he did not have all the mobility he thinks he has.
4. I am glad we won because Price can now celebrate AFTER beating GSU in a big game in "their" house.
5. Some of the best "Coaching" moves were made today...See #3.
6. Our fans ought not quack too much in a place like Statesboro....I could have gotten ugly!

It was a great trip....glad I made it and Dahpne, I am still looking for you!

Yes, the players and coaches did change the skeem, to play to APP strengths.
And YES we played well enough to WIN without any CELEBRATING until we WON the game.

This win is squarely on the defensive coaches and it wasn't won today. This game was won with the leanings taught and received by the defensive coaches and players after the Citadel and Wofford losses. It took 10 quarters for the players to get it, but once they did they were lights out. I have been disappointed with Patrick Blaylock's play this year but it was clear that the lightbulb came on for him yesterday. He stayed home and played his responsibility. Well done.

I think Burns played lights out. He absolutely stuffed the middle in 2nd half.

Yesterday was my first trip to Statesboro. Indeed, I saw some ugly GaSo fans were not provoked by the App fans around them to behave as they did. I also met some great GaSo fans who love their Eagle football. I was grateful for the policeman who assisted us in dealing with the ugly fans.

Like asutrnr1, I learned several things yesterday:
1 - One should always be wary of the man (or team) that has nothing to lose. App could have rolled over in Statesboro, marked the season a "rebuilding year", and waltzed off the stage. Instead, App played like the champions they are and will be. I don't believe GaSo was ready for the intensity App brought to the field yesterday.
2 - Price may grow up to be a really good player. He certainly has the skills. Once he gains a little maturity / experience and demostrates his knowledge of football as a team sport, he'll be nothing short of amazing.
3 - There are enough really rude GaSo fans to make life downright miserable in Statesboro. My opinion of the school formed over 30 years ago when playing intercollegiate water polo against GaSo is as accurate now as it was then. We did meet some pleasant fans who worked hard to showing the better side of the GaSo fanbase.
4 - Our O-line will grow up to be superb. Their play seems to be improving steadily.
5 - Defense = WOW! Even with Kimbrough on the sidelines with cramping / dehydration issues in the 4th, the D stepped up in a way that can only be described as heroic.
6 - Yosef donations make a real difference. One of many examples - Burns who played lights out defense particularly in helping stop GaSo deep in their own territory would not have had lots of post- high school educational opportunities without scholarship assistance. Every one of us who donated helped that young man in getting his education. He helped every one of use by giving his all for Appalachian State.
7 - It's great to be a Mountaineer!!!

5 - Defense = WOW! Even with Kimbrough on the sidelines with cramping / dehydration issues in the 4th, the D stepped up in a way that can only be described as heroic.

For those of us who were there, Kimbrough showed his heart late in the game. In the second-to-last defensive series, he went out due to dehydration. Not terribly surprising due to the the fact that the defense was on the field for 38 minutes in 80 degrees with no wind after spending a week in the snowy mountains. I believe he threw up and was dry-heaving while trying to rehydrate. He then went in for one play on the final series, then limped right back out and fell over on the sidelines with bad cramps. He was in a lot of pain and stayed down on the sidelines for the rest of the game. That's giving your all for Appalachian State.

It's not safe there wearing black & gold. It's really not. Wear neutral colors. You're still supporting the team. It's a shame but that's what I feel like I need to do.

Regarding #3, you are exactly right! JJ has a ton of talent, but he has the same tendancy that another great App QB had...that being Richie Williams. The best thing that happened to Richie (for his development) was that he had to play several games with a sprained ankle. It forced him to stay in the pocket longer and find his targets. Richie never looked back and it made him a great QB. I think JJ has similar potential and we can only hope that we get the same result in this case! Great game by JJ, and the whole team.
