Davis has long wanted to be the AD at Appalachian. He really, really wanted to come back to The High Country when he was at The Citadel. Since then he's held huge responsibilities at TCU and now at Clemson |(IPTAY). He'd have a high price tag, but he'd be a mover and shaker! He still has a lot of friends in our area.

Re: Timeline for getting AD candidates
Good candidate, from what I can tell...prior to his current position at Clemson, his responsibilities at TCU were:
"... all athletic fundraising activities for the University with a primary emphasis on major gifts for athletics, new facilities and capital improvements. He also oversees the operation of the TCU Frog Club. He was named the University Division 2001 Fund Raiser of the Year by the National Association of Athletic Development Directors (NAADD)."

"FEB. 11th–Sources tell College AD the university is down to four finalists for director of athletics: Marcy Girton, Texas A&M Chief of Staff, Rick Beasley, Appalachian State Interim AD, Mike Buddie, Wake Forest Senior Associate AD, and Hunter Yurachek, Houston COO. We are also told a decision should be made this week by Chancellor Dr. Sheri N. Everts. College AD is working on confirmation."
However, they later reported that Hunter Yurachek, Houston COO is no longer a candidate.
I am fairly certain there's another candidate in the mix from what I've heard. But I don't know for sure.

I think Beasly has done a tremendous job in the interim and he was a really cool guy when I met him a few months ago, but I grow weary of yet another example of ASU incest if he's hired.

I'm going to be upset that we spent 6 figures hiring a recruiting firm to find a new AD to only hire the interim.Gonzo wrote:I think Beasly has done a tremendous job in the interim and he was a really cool guy when I met him a few months ago, but I grow weary of yet another example of ASU incest if he's hired.
Also, I agree that Rick is a super nice guy. But his job when CC was in town was to bring in $$$ and that, IMO, is what we're lacking today.
I really hope we bring in someone with a higher level of experience and competency to push our department to new heights.

Has there been any more mention of Matt Biggers at Colorado? He's a '94 App grad.

Re: Timeline for getting AD candidates
I agree to a point on the incest but as you say he has done a very good job plus people like him. We need some of that. He should have someone under him who is in charge of fundraising. I would not be heartbroken if he got the job in spite of the fact I agree with you on the incest point.Gonzo wrote:I think Beasly has done a tremendous job in the interim and he was a really cool guy when I met him a few months ago, but I grow weary of yet another example of ASU incest if he's hired.
Re: Timeline for getting AD candidates
Beasley has done a good job as intern AD, and I think he would do a good job if given the permanent position, my only concern is he has been there a long time, and we need someone with new ideas to move us to the next level, having worked so long under Charlie, does he have anything new to bring to the table, or is he going to just maintain the status quo that Charlie established.

Re: Timeline for getting AD candidates
If he does get it, I have no idea if he will or won't, i trust those interviewing have sought answers to this particular important question. No doubt this is a watershed hire for Dr. Everts and staff. This CANNOT be the wrong decision.moehler wrote:Beasley has done a good job as intern AD, and I think he would do a good job if given the permanent position, my only concern is he has been there a long time, and we need someone with new ideas to move us to the next level, having worked so long under Charlie, does he have anything new to bring to the table, or is he going to just maintain the status quo that Charlie established.

Re: Timeline for getting AD candidates
I personally don't know anything about any of the candidates except what has been put up on here, but as we have become known in some circles as a "football school," here's hoping that whomever gets the job has actually played the game of football on the college level to at least some extent.APPARJ wrote:Via @CollegeAD's website http://collegead.org/athletic-director-jobs/ :asu66 wrote:Saint3333 wrote:Decision could come as early as week of 3/2 I'm hearing.

Re: Timeline for getting AD candidates
We need someone who understands that football is our most valuable marketing asset for the school who can also help build a staff that can raise funds better than any staff App State has ever seen (because we're not very good at that right now at all).NewApp wrote:I personally don't know anything about any of the candidates except what has been put up on here, but as we have become known in some circles as a "football school," here's hoping that whomever gets the job has actually played the game of football on the college level to at least some extent.APPARJ wrote:Via @CollegeAD's website http://collegead.org/athletic-director-jobs/ :asu66 wrote:Saint3333 wrote:Decision could come as early as week of 3/2 I'm hearing.

I am hearing you don't like the woman from A&M. I feel like her coming from a SEC school with a major football following would help with us here.APPARJ wrote:We need someone who understands that football is our most valuable marketing asset for the school who can also help build a staff that can raise funds better than any staff App State has ever seen (because we're not very good at that right now at all).NewApp wrote:I personally don't know anything about any of the candidates except what has been put up on here, but as we have become known in some circles as a "football school," here's hoping that whomever gets the job has actually played the game of football on the college level to at least some extent.APPARJ wrote:Via @CollegeAD's website http://collegead.org/athletic-director-jobs/ :asu66 wrote:Saint3333 wrote:Decision could come as early as week of 3/2 I'm hearing.

Re: Timeline for getting AD candidates
Hunter Yurachek was a competent and experienced candidate, but I'm actually happy that he withdrew his name. He's never stayed anywhere for very long' and wouldn't have stayed with us for longer than a cup of coffee. I mean *hello* he's only been at Houston for exactly 362 days--and he's already job-shopping????????????????????????? What can I say? He's spent his entire life in the Carolinas and Virginia until his move to Texas. Born in Richmond, educated at Guilford and UR and held positions in athletic admin. at WFU, WCU, UVA, Coastal Carolina and started a new job at Houston on Feb. 20, 2014. He's all about himself! Not Yosef! Good riddance.
Tomorrow, I may tell everybody how I really feel
Oh, BTW, I thought Marcy Girton was still at South Carolina. These folks keep a suitcase packed! That's a reality we'll need to internalize. Only the Peterson-Capel basketball capers kept Cobb around as long as he stayed.

Re: Timeline for getting AD candidates
agree, the worst mistake we could make is to hire someone who already has one foot out the door before they start their position with App. I would expect the committee made it clear to any candidate that we expect them to honor their commitment to App and stay for an extended period of time. This might have played a factor in the Houston guy dropping out, I'm sure they saw the same thing you did, that he didn't stay anywhere for long, and that might have caused enough concern with the committee that both sides didn't feel comfortable moving forward, don't know, just speculation.
