Re: Timeline for getting AD candidates
Got a text this morning... Curveball in the AD search.

APPALACHIAN STATE UNIVERSITY
Feb. 26th–In a turn of events, sources tell College AD that Doug Gillen, University of Missouri, Deputy Athletic Director will become the next Athletic Director at App. State. We are told, Marcy Girton, Texas A&M Chief of Staff pulled out of the search and Interim AD, Rick Beasley was told yesterday that he was no longer a candidate. We are working on full confirmation.

"He is heavily involved in fundraising for Mizzou and its self-sustaining athletic department, contributing to a record-setting amount of total giving in fiscal year 2014. Gillin has been integral in the initiation of Mizzou."

He played ice hockey in college. Maybe he can bring a team to App?

Re: Timeline for getting AD candidates
If Gillian is our guy then it sounds like he has experience in all of the area's we are either currently lacking in, or that will be of even greater importance going forward. His strengths look to be in marketing, corporate sponsorship's, and media which are going to be huge for us as an FBS member. Can't wait to have it official!

It sounds like he came into the process late. I believe we were leaning towards Buddy from Wake up until Gillian came along.moehler wrote:what the hell?!! The video in which he is discussing the new tailgating area at Mizzou is very telling. He comes across very professional and personable. I know it's a quick video, but he looks to be a big upgrade.Gonzo wrote:"He is heavily involved in fundraising for Mizzou and its self-sustaining athletic department, contributing to a record-setting amount of total giving in fiscal year 2014. Re: Timeline for getting AD candidates
I understand people's affection towards Rick as he is a nice guy. But when your job is to raise funds and one of our biggest problems as an athletic department is fundraising... well, I guess that's why we are where we are with Gillin.
Check this out... Doug Gillin wrote a blog about corporate sponsorships. Could Rick do that? That isn't a slam on Rick but I am very excited about the prospect of someone with this much fundraising savvy working for our school.

Re: Timeline for getting AD candidates
IF Gillen is going to be our next AD, what he has achieved at Missouri, atleast on paper, is very impressive, his resume is really strong, especially when it comes to fundraising. Of course its too early to know if he will be good, bad, or average, but atleast today, this looks like a really good hire, maybe a homerun!!

Re: Timeline for getting AD candidates
IMG College's influence on our hiring process is one avenue that I totally missed. That organization had to have been involved at some level in steering us to Gillin or steering him to us. Whatever, it's a slam dunk by early estimation.
I, too, feel for Rick. It's tough to get passed over by your own alma mater where you're a Hall-of-Famer. On the other hand, Rick is reasonably young. He may have the experience and credentials next time around. I'm gonna hope Gillin will stay with us for six years.

Good point about the IMG connection with Missouri. I was in Winston-Salem when ISP was formed and I believe Wake and Missouri were 2 of the original schools.asu66 wrote:IMG College's influence on our hiring process is one avenue that I totally missed. Re: Timeline for getting AD candidates
If Rick is retained, he needs to talk to Gillin about the fellowship he was a part of that grooms people to be Athletic Directors, if he still wants to be one. If he does, honestly, Beasley needs to move on to another school to get more experience outside of Boone. His resume just couldn't match up to Gillin's

Re: Timeline for getting AD candidates
This all started with one random Tweet last night, found by Moose.
Through some social media detective work, it was found out that the uncle was Doug Gillin. Wasn't good enough for a confirmation, but it pointed the right journalists in the right direction.

If you google Doug Gillin, there are a few links out there saying he will be named the next AD at App State.
