Once again we have problems with a live event on GoASU TV...
Hopefully Gillian can fix these issues with his IMG ties.

Listening now - asked about full cost of attendance.
Gillin stressing fiscal responsibility (which he also did in his opening statement), but also said "we don't want to be outrecruited financially."

Wow. Doug Gillin has more likability and personality in 10 minutes than Charlie Cobb did in a decade.
FYI - CC was always polite to me but he did have issues with being personable with alumni/fans.

Cobb was definitely not an engaging speaker. This guy is off to a good start.APPARJ wrote:Wow. Doug Gillin has more likability and personality in 10 minutes than Charlie Cobb did in a decade.

It says a lot about Gillian that his AD and 4 of his executive AD's from Missouri all came to Boone for this press conference.

I was in Boone this weekend....Saw Beasley and thanked him for his hard work. I talked to some other folks and they said that quite a few alumni were upset the Rick didnt get the AD job.....I'm surprised to hear that. The experience and qualifications were vastly different. I like Rick but not for that job.

I'll bet a lot of that was from folks that just gravitated to Rick while CC was here. There were just a whole lot of people who had no desire to speak to CC after the first couple times. As they get to know the new AD they will get over it especially if Rick stays. It look like we have a really good pick.Rekdiver wrote:I was in Boone this weekend....Saw Beasley and thanked him for his hard work. I wonder how many of them are mad because they might not have as much influence or inside connection with an "outsider" coming in?Rekdiver wrote:I was in Boone this weekend....Saw Beasley and thanked him for his hard work. No doubt Rick is a good guy and well liked by almost everyone, but if they were really open minded about this there is no way they could honestly say he was the more qualified candidate.

Re: AD Doug Gillin Intro Presser at 3 pm
I can understand the thought process of some if they are upset or disappointing, I'm not close enough to know how many feel this way. Try and equate this to your workplace. You work at a medium sized company and your boss/friend is a guy that is very likeable, whom you are personally comfortable where you stand in the picture going forward, and he is the top assistant for the opening He puts in for the job and goes up against a guy with a similar job at a much bigger company but with a broader range of experience. Your guy doesn't get the job and you are faced with uncertainty of what will change for you personally. It's like a double punch in the gut at first.
I was going to support the AD no matter who was named and hope Rick stays as he is a valuable member of department with good connections with our alumni base. I think Doug and Rick can make a great team to lead us to another level on and off the field.

I glad that Chancellor Everts picked an outsider. This is the way to put a stamp on your tenure. New blood, new ideas and no leverage from the good old boy network.

I understand their disappointment, Saint. But their disappointment is not nearly as important as doing the right thing for our athletic program. It's a business decision, not a popularity contest.
I am confident that we made the right decision.

Re: AD Doug Gillin Intro Presser at 3 pm
Based on resumes the right choice was obvious and we got it right. We needed a proven marketing and fund raising specialist. The gap in credentials was huge and DG's biggest strengths AND accomplishments are exactly what App needs at this point. The only way it swings the other way would be for DG to blow his interview. After seeing his introduction press conference, I seriously doubt he did anything short of impress.
I think these folks should feel fortunate that we attracted and landed such a resource.
If Rick stays then maybe he can learn something and build his resume for his future.
