Hey, you guys want to hear a good one? After spending the last 15 years trying to move back to NC which I finally accomplished last spring, I will now, due to circumstances mostly beyond my control have to move back to Atlanta in a few weeks. I've cheered myself up a bit with the notion that now at least I'll have a road game a mere 30 minutes from my home every other year beginning this fall.
So I eagerly check the schedule today only to find that while the rest of App Nation will be in Atlanta, where I live, I will be in Morganton, NC shooting a wedding.
MY LIFE!

So I say we just win games and make sure the Thursdays and Thanksgiving weekend games are meaningful. Just Win Baby!

They're not making this schedule for attendance, they're making it for TV. They're trying to put the most appealing matchups in the most favorable television windows. That means weeknights. And maybe Thanksgiving weekend. If App can't figure out how to market around that, we shouldn't have joined the league in the first place.
Wow! Someone gets it! This is the truth.
Its time to grow up, the Thanksgiving weekend issue is an FCS thing. The rest of the free (FBS)world plays football t-giving weekend and approximately half those games are home games for someone and people show up. Have to get over that.
No one is saying we shouldn't play on Thanksgiving. That is beyond ANYONE'S control.
We can say what we "think" and analyze factors all day long but if App State plays on Thanksgiving weekend, the attendance will be poor.
We should hope every year that App plays on the road during Thanksgiving weekend.

I'm sorry, I heard two nationally televised football games from KBS. They didn't screw us. They told us they think we give them tremendous bang for their buck on the biggest stage they have. Does it personally suck? Sure. As a teacher, I'm sure I will only be able to watch on TV, but I can watch them on TV, as can every one else with cable or satellite. Sounds like a win to me, even if I'm inconvenienced.

Look at this stretch for TX State:
Sept. 26 at Houston
Oct. 10 * at UL Lafayette
Oct. 24 * South Alabama
On the road at Houston, then a bye week, on the road to ULL, another bye week and then home to USA. Over a month away from home. Their fans will definitely be ready for that home game on Oct 24.

I really hope we don't outsmart ourselves. These games by their nature will negatively impact attendance numbers. Will we be on ESPNU with access to millions of viewers? Yes. Understood. Got it.
But come on. Why do we get excited for the schedule? So we can see what games we can attend.
I get being excited for national exposure but that is literally the only positive here. For me, that's a net loss.

Yeah what a bunch of little crybaby mama boys. LOL. Man up. The schedule is the schedule. The guy who said 23k for Southern on Thursday night is clueless. I'm excited about this season.

What you say is true. I was hoping for just one game, but we have two, and the challenge will be to make the most of this situation. A situation we've really only had once before with the 2008 Wofford game.

What don't you get? "We" have no control over conference scheduling and I'm sure the Thanksgiving think will come and go. For years this school has fought to get more national exposure and move into an FBS conference. Now that we are achieving these goals you want to have a pity party over the freaking schedule. That's crazy man, these are opportunities. BTW our first year in the league we were top 2 or 3 in attendance and that was with a really, really bad start to the season.
It's gonna be okay, all we have to do is win. 90% of the fans don't even know who ULL is yet and we haven't had time to establish rivalries.

If we can't put nearly 30K in the stands for Georgia Southern then we do not belong.
As for Ark. St. if we are winning KBS will be at capacity.....maybe not all seats full....but at capacity.
As for ULL. If it is for the SB conference Championship or bowl eligibility and we do not show up....then we do not belong....the team may belong but our fan base needs to support the team to the level they are playing.
I will be at every dang game if I have to drive up eat BHG's pre-game fixin's and head home after. Don't care....I am all in! 12-0 0-12! All in!
As EASTHALLAPP said this is made for TV and the best of the SB is going to be on TV. Let's hope we are doing well enough in late November to MAKE ESPN put us and ULL on the Rivalry weekend Package!

I think the Thursday night games are a compliment to the App program. I would imagine ESPN picked the games they wanted so I don't get those that are trashing the Sun Belt. If we didn't have the Thursday games these same folks would probably complain about not having any ESPN games. Man up.

Does Arkansas St. not belong after they put roughly 8,000 people in the stands vs. App on a Saturday?

If wanting a packed house KBS on ESPN3 vs a half empty KBS on ESPNU is seen as a pity party then what's wrong with you?
But to be fair to you... You are right about winning. That is the name of the game.

I took a weekend job at the Greensboro Science Center at the beginning of the year. Weekends only runnning the Omnisphere/Planetarium. Two weeks on and two weeks off.
EVERY HOME GAME is my weekend to work at this point. This might force me to take in a Thursday night game.
I do have internet access while at GSC-for what it is worth.
This is my very generic signature added to each post.

quit complaining, shut up, show up, and scream for App until you're hoarse. This schedule is LIGHT YEARS ahead of anything the small-con could ever offer. Two games on ESPN U. Quit complaining. This is FBS football and GO APPS!

This is the best schedule App has ever had and the home opponent schedule is awesome. As a fan base we have to grow up and support the team as best we can. TWO nationally televised games on Thursday night will give lots of exposure to App and the match ups are about as good as it gets in G5. P5 schools attract fans on Thanksgiving weekend and I guess our fan base needs to step it up too. If this App team plays up to expectation and is in the hunt for the Belt title, attendance will take care of itself. I admit I like having a road game 10 minutes from my house in ATL and another in one of my favorite cities, Mobile, AL.
And a night game on ESPNU at The Rock against the Stink?? Hell yes!!

I think we can all agree that being on TV is a compliment to our success, but that doesn't mean we have to like the idea of losing two Saturdays at home. Hopefully the league can get a better TV deal in the future. Im not worried about our fans showing up for Ga. Southern, but I am worried about Ark State. Hopefully our fan base will respond and show up in force for both games.
