Doug Gillin sounds like a fantastic hire and a perfect fit for ASU at this point in time. He looks like the right person to pilot the ship during this time of transition, new challenges and opportunities. It's an exciting time for App Nation!

This article is just another good sign. I really enjoyed his interview and his passion is a very good sign as well. If you have not watched the interview yet, I would advise you to watch it. A lot of really good stuff.

Interesting questions about playing Mizzou. Not sure if it makes sense in football, but I wonder if he could swing a basketball home-and-home with them. That's the sort of name opponent that would bring in new fans to the HCC.

Also interesting that Mizzou's AD is retiring.

he looks like a really good hire, and I bet he has more than a few new ideas about fund raising both at the corporate level and the alumi. He saying all the right things, and I believe he really wants to be our AD for more than just a year or two.

Gillin is exactly the type of AD we need at this time. I like the attitude that you grow the checkbook in order to do what you need to do rather than cutting your expectations back, while recognizing that you still have to balance the checkbook. I hate the attitude "we can't do it", the star players find a way to get it done. Can't never could.

He recognizes opportunity lost. Without rehashing details from last many years, this is the first time someone from our AD department has acknowledged the true cost of lost opportunity.

I am super excited with this hire. I know it is early but so far Everts seems to recognize good talent.

It's hard to believe how far we've come from the days of Roachel 'We can't do that' Laney. Since his tenure, each AD hire has been better than the one before.

There are some who still refer to those as the good old days.

I hope Rick Beasley stays on to work with Gillin. I think he could benefit and learn a lot that from him

Rick is a smart guy. If he looks at what Gillan has done, where he's been then he will realize he didn't have the resume to run our programs. An outsider used to dealing with the corporate world and well heeled alumni who want to matter is just what we need right now. I am very pleased with our hire. The thing that somewhat tickles me is all the conjecture on the site show no one had a clue. He's a New Yorker so Coach Fox now has someone who speaks the same lingo!

It's funny about Gillin being from New York, because he doesn't have the New York accent. You would have no idea he's from up north by talking to him.

Very nice in depth article and interview by Blowing Rock News. I have to say they may not write about App as often as other, but they seem to produce much better work than some of the others. I'm glad to have them along with the WSJ covering us.

Upstate NY bears little resemblance to NYC, in speaking accents or many other ways.

My wife is from upstate NY (Amsterdam, NY area) and though she has been in North Carolina for a few decades now her cousins and such still in that area really have no accent at all. They sound like a classic TV news voice. Fox has a Long Island accent I think and he is from historic Levittown.
This is my very generic signature added to each post.

Everybody from NY doesn't have a Brooklyn accent.
