Re: Baseball v TxState
Our issue is that we can string hits together. We get at least a hit an inning (give-or-take) but can't ever bring it in. We don't hit situationally and we don't look to take pitches/walks. For a team that swings liberally we sure aren't getting a lot of offense.

Agreed. Our guys need to learn to work the count better and stop swinging at the first or second pitch. It seems like this has gotten worse with each loss. The guys seem to be pressing and trying to do too much instead of playing the game.HeffnerIV wrote:Our issue is that we can string hits together. We have done a better job of that today than the past few games. Hopefully it pays off down the stretch as we are tied 4-4.

I believe we've seen this movie before, Ground Hog Day. Also, have lost 8 straight.hapapp wrote:Gave up 2 in the 9th, trail 6-4.

Re: Baseball v TxState
One thing I noticed this weekend is that our batter swing at the first pitch A LOT. Texas State didn't have to go to their bullpen that much because we gave them some 4-5 pitch innings. So many times we swin at the first pitch, take the second and are down 0-2 just like that. Dobson is particular swung at every first pitch on Friday. He did take his first pitch on Sunday and then the second pitch he golfed into the Bobcat bullpen.
Billy Jones is lost. Examples. On Friday he pulls DeVrieze with two down in the ninth after he pitched very well (got two ground-outs which advanced the lead-off single runner to third, but he was fine) in McCann who gives up two runs and kills any chance of a comeback. On Saturday he leaves Thurber in the ninth, his fifth inning of relief, who gives up a two-run homer in a tie game. Thurber did get out of the inning, but the damage was done. Ross was warmed up in the bullpen going into the ninth.
Some of that is bad luck, but there's no such thing as consistent bad luck. Jones did shift the lineup around on the weekend trying to find something that worked. For example, he batted Avery Johnson 1st on Friday, moved to 8th on Saturday and then used him as a PH on Sunday (who grounded out on the first pitch). Noah Holmes was put at 2B for Saturday and Sunday and I've never seen him at that position. And yet Dobson remains at SS and one-hopping throws more than half of the time.
There were 6-7 calls over the weekend that went against App that were borderline. I thought for sure Jones would get tossed on Sunday as there were two interference calls that looked bad, including the one in the 7th on Atwood at 2nd that cost us the go-ahead run.
Davis was out Sunday after hurting his shoulder on Saturday on a great diving catch. He finished the game Saturday but was hurting big time on Sunday and is day to day.

Billy has picked a bad time for the season to go south, I'm sure he isn't impressing his new boss.
