My dorm mate had a Kip Winger poster. It sucked. I hated it. His bass wasn't even plugged in.

Please elaborate on these "racial double standards" that are so harmful to society whenever you're done "winning". I have to admit it's perfect though, considering you are the Charlie Sheen of Yosef's Cabin.
Seriously though, list these egregious and "racist" double standards that somehow threaten the majority.

If this was Oklahoma, Boren (sp) would have fired the RA.

Here's an idea: why don't we all go to Starbucks, then purchase a $12 cup of coffee, and discuss this issue?

I am not a profiler and don't have the training, however a colleague is a certified fraud examiner who has been through the profiler training at Quantico. One thing he told me is that if someone keeps looking to the left, they are lying. If they repeatedly look to the right, they are thinking and collecting their thoughts. I notice this guy looking to the left a lot during this so-called recollection. I'm calling BS on this whole thing.

I would really like to hear how his perspective compares with other students of color at App.

We are really lucky we got him because he is the ONLY person in his WHOLE school who is smart enough to educate all these racist students at ASU. We are sure lucky to have him.skjellyfetti wrote:Not sure if this has been posted. This is the RA:

Don't shoot the messenger (me), but I really think the less we say about this on a public forum, the better.

Agreed. He is so brave to face the turbulent and vicious racist culture that is so obvious in Boone. I bet he keeps a fire extinguisher in his car to put out any burning crosses he might drive by on the way to class.bcoach wrote:We are really lucky we got him because he is the ONLY person in his WHOLE school who is smart enough to educate all these racist students at ASU. He seems like a really down to earth, humble guy who's just looking to get to the bottom of what makes people so racist in the parking lot of Wal-Mart in Boone. No agenda here.
I change my mind about Reggie. This guy should be the privileged one. Would any other white folks on MMB be willing to chip in any spare privilege for Reggie?

Re: App State dorm bulletin board shames 'privileged' studen
Guys it serves no purpose to be sarcastic about what this guy did. I too believe he is s t r e t c h i n g the truth here but if anyone did call him the "N" word his first day on campus I am ashamed of that person or those people. A climate where any person of color cannot be comfortable cannot be tolerated. I hope someone forwards this to Chancellor Everts and she investigate it both for the truth and the sensitivity of the issue of race. Rather than spend all our time criticizing this guy we need to know what the issues really are that made him do this. Is it attention? Is it because he's tired of being made to feel minimized? Why is he really so angry and lump all white people into 1 basket? I don't know the answers and it (his comments) makes me angry that he did this but if any of it is true that we have a lot of work.

This is not the Boone I grew up in, blacks and whites have been side by side way before the Civil Rights Movement began. Some of my best friends I grew up with are black, I have a great nephew (adopted) that is black, etc. I could go on, but, in my opinion the RA's comments hold APPsolutely no water!Rekdiver wrote:but if any of it is true that we have a lot of work.

But we dont really know do we? Was this town folks or students he was talking about? Or is he attention seeking and lying? I dont know but I do want to find out. We've come so far since I got on a different school bus than the black kids that lived near me. I don't have white guilt, am a card carrying Republican and am tired of the seeming lack of empathy or understanding of what it is to be a minority.
Don't you think its worth finding out if what this guy is saying is true?

How, get a special investigator or something? In my humble opinion I have my doubts. If need be, maybe he could elaborate and provide witnesses, etc. However, I see no need. If others want to dig deeper then have at it, personally I'm done.Rekdiver wrote:Don't you think its worth finding out if what this guy is saying is true?

It's a story that can't be proven or disproven.

Whether he did or not, he needs to develop a thicker skin because in my opinion racial tensions have worsened rather than improved over the last few years and Boone may have its racial, religious, and ethnic tensions but he will likely encounter much worse elsewhere as he travels through life.Gonzo wrote:At the risk of seeming presumptuous, I'll state the obvious.skjellyfetti wrote:Not sure if this has been posted. Have others come forward with similar stories, or, is he the only individual to experience this type situation?

Re: App State dorm bulletin board shames 'privileged' studen
I've seen white people use racist language to black people in Boone, but in every occasion the white person was very drunk. Not a good excuse or even an excuse at all, but that my experience. Also, in most cases, the white person using the language was not a student, but someone who lived in Watauga County.

Re: App State dorm bulletin board shames 'privileged' studen
I'd start with an interview of the RA then I'd interview every minority that wanted to be interviewed. If there is overt racism on campus I'd want to know and figure out a way to stomp it out. Do you think every black student would lie about it? I sure don't.AppinVA wrote:Okay. One quick question...How?Rekdiver wrote:But we dont really know do we?
