Re: 3/25 Wake Forest
Whaley was limited to 20 pitches as it was his first action of the season.
After the game Billy Jones said the players need to look themselves in the mirror and decided if they want to do this or not. Took 0% of the blame. Even though he didn't throw the pitches or make the errors, he's the manager and captain of the ship.

And publicly calling out players like that is doing nothing but making him lose them. I take that back, he lost them 2 weeks ago. A coach is supposed to man up and take the blame, whether it's his fault or not (which this season is). As head coach you are ultimately responsible for everything that goes on.T-Dog wrote:Whaley was limited to 20 pitches as it was his first action of the season.

Jones and the team has close to a 700-mile bus ride tomorrow, so they'll have some quality time to spend together.

Someone needs to explain to Billy that this is not the NBA. We won't get any draft picks for finishing dead ass last in the league.

Re: 3/25 Wake Forest
I've *unhappily* concluded that BillyBoy isn't up to the task. I fear it's as good as it's gonna get with him at the helm. Our new AD has a "case" to manage right off the top of the stack!
We're up 4 runs on Wake in the eighth *at home* with an enthusiastic crowd and our pitcher has things relatively under control; and Billy decided to bring in a lefty to face a left handed hitter. Wake promptly starts sending up a legion of .300+ pinch hitters each time Billy makes a change. Then the roof completely caves in. It was predictable. I was screaming at my screen..."No! No! Billy, no!"
How many times does that make it that has Billy done this now? Over how many seasons?
This is who Billy is. I don't see where he's changed his decision-making one iota.

Re: 3/25 Wake Forest
Under BillBoy's watch the baseball program has been steadily declining for the past three years. As this season progresses the team has (once again) continued to regress.

Hard to believe that only a few short years ago we were so close to the second round of the CWS and now..brutal.

That is hard to believe.l, but is sadly true. And I've heard those players from that team feel a huge disconnect with the app baseball program now. Sad considering how much those guys did for our baseball program.bigdaddyg wrote:Hard to believe that only a few short years ago we were so close to the second round of the CWS and now..brutal.

Re: 3/25 Wake Forest
The loss last night had nothing to do with pitching. Had the players in the field made one or two routine plays we give up 1 run and win 8-5. We can debate how much blame falls on Billy, but the pitchers put the team in position to win. Pulling DeVrieze after 3 innings of relief was the right decision with a conference road series this weekend.

Re: 3/25 Wake Forest

Pitching got us in the position to lead and the RF drop in the 8th was huge. That being said, whether the runs were earned or not pitching in the 8th lost us this game. Re: 3/25 Wake Forest
Even thought the dropped fly-outs weren't his fault, Ross needed to be pulled. Throw something else at Wake. However Billy loves to have his pitchers stay in. He left Springs in way too long on Saturday and got lucky he held on for the win. It's his M.O.

Re: 3/25 Wake Forest
I just did a bit of research on my own I got 23 losses after having a lead or being tied in the 6th inning or later. Compared that to 5 wins after being tied or trailing in the 6th inning or later.Saint3333 wrote:22.

Re: 3/25 Wake Forest
Thanks tdog I'll revise my count. There is no debate that stat is a very troubling trend and while each game was blown due to various circumstance Billy is the common thread during that time.
I'd love to be on the other end of a comeback win once this season.

So you expect the pitcher to K every batter he faces?NO.2 wrote:

Our pitcher induced 2 fly balls and a grounder to 2nd that were all misplayed. If they make the first two plays we keep the lead and win. If they make the last play we are tied. Should we have made a pitching change before the 2nd fly ball? Possibly. It shouldn't have come to that point though. The 7 guys behind the P have to do their part as well.
