Appalachian Caravan in Greenville SC

Unread post by MDaniels84 » Wed Apr 15, 2015 7:34 am

Went to coaches caravan last night in Greenville SC and just wanted to give a few impressions. First off - Our AD is very well spoken and is already making a positive impact. He comes across as knowledgeable and passionate about our Appalachian family. Rick Beasley told me that our new AD is making a really smooth transition and is bringing some good new energy to the program. Spoke with most of the football coaches and they are all so positive that it is contagious. Nate Woody was beaming about the potential of our defense this season and said that we are now 4 deep at NT (which was a weakness just a season or so ago). Spoke at length with Coach Sloan and Coach Ivey regarding recruiting and they both said that while there is great reason to be excited about our 2015 and upcoming 2016 classes, many people are forgetting just how good our 2014 class was and how many of those guys were shirted. Coach Satterfield made time for all of us and I got to speak with him for about 10 minutes while they were wrapping up.
Coaches Fox and Elderkin (basketball) were great as well. The common thread among everyone that I spoke with was the Appalachian family . These coaches definitely get it and they are busting their tales to get us to the next level. After speaking with Fox and Elderkin, I am going to make more of an effort to get up the mountain for some basketball games next season.
All in all, just a really positive Appalachian evening ! :D

thank you for the summary, I think you confirmed what we already know, that we have strong leadership in our coaching and administrative staffs. Couple of questions, 1. how many people showed up, and 2. did Gillian go in specifics on what future plans the University has for the athletic dept . Thanks man.

Hope to see a large crown Thursday, April 16, at Rockbarn near Hickory. Not too late to sign up. I have heard nothing but rave reviews from Yosef Tour Stops so far.

Great event. Also, the Yosef Club is planning a huge event in Greenville the night before the Clemson game. :D

Gillin spoke more about his 4 foundations for our program . I can't remember all of them but his main 2 seemed to center around :
1. Student Athlete 1st and foremost
2.We want to compete for CHAMPIONSHIPS

He spoke at length about how we , as alums, never take off our logo. He was speaking to the point that we , as App Nation, take our university seriously and represent well out in the community.

Also, as The Moody stated, they talked about how App Nation is going to let their presence be known in Greenville prior to the Clemson game and in Atlanta prior to the Georgia State game.
