Proud triple-degree App grad--Classes of '66, '70 and '81.
If it happens to the Apps, it happens to me!

Great article. Appalachian has been blessed by the Winston Salem Journal and Tommy Bowman's coverage of Mountaineer sports for 27 years. I have sent him several emails over the years to thank him for his coverage of App and he always sent a nice reply. I am happy to hear that he still plans to cover us as a freelance writer. We need to honor him in a special way.

Glad to see the school honor Tommy in some way. Great man for App State coverage. Go Apps!

Is he taking an early retirement option? I read where the Gboro N&R was laying off 9 employees and since both are owned by the same parent I was figuring this might be the reason.

A reasonable assumption but Tommy's resignation and the layoffs at the N&R had no relation to each other.

So he resigned. Internal politics at WSJ? Asking him to take a pay cut? Curious.

They should rename a part of 321 from W-S to Boone in his honor because he's probably driven it more than any other human being.

This is an unfortunate reality of print news everywhere. Print news is bleeding profusely and its days are numbered. I don't like it but it is a fact.
