Here's a letter no university administrator would ever want to find in the "in-box". This should keep them busy for a long while. What an embarrassment and humiliation for faculty, staff, students and alumni.

Am I reading this right in that UNC-CH has not done much in the last few months to implement changes at a level to please SACSCOC?DoubleA wrote:Here's a letter no university administrator would ever want to find in the "in-box". Re: The Carolina Way (Cont'd)
You read it exactly right. The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools has placed UNC on probation for one year--in essence for a shoddy and inadequate report on its efforts to come into compliance with the Association's standards for IHEs (institutions of higher education). The letter repeatedly cites UNC's failure to provide significant evidence of progress; failure to directly address questions raised by the Association; failure to provide adequate documentation of the effectiveness of new initiatives supposedly established to assure proper institutional control of UNC athletics; and a host of other inadequacies.McLeansvilleAppFan wrote:Am I reading this right in that UNC-CH has not done much in the last few months to implement changes at a level to please SACSCOC?DoubleA wrote:Here's a letter no university administrator would ever want to find in the "in-box". In short, the University has until mid-April, 2016 to respond to cited inadequacies in another detailed report and to prepare for an on-site monitoring committee visitation from SACS. If, by the completion of the visitation, satisfactory progress cannot be documented, the University risks a second and final year of probation and the real possibility of loss of accreditation and mandatory removal from the Association's membership. Almost unbelievable; yet very real.
The letter is a lightning strike directly on Carol Bolt's short tenure as UNC's Chancellor. She took the job making speeches across the state about UNC being the "Gold Standard" of flagship universities. Then she signed off on a flaw-filled report to SACS only to have it unceremoniously rejected. She now finds herself at the helm of an enormous sinking ship. This lady is in a lot of trouble--with her students, her faculty, her BOT and the UNC-BOG.
She didn't create this situation; but so far, she's under water in making it go away. Nonetheless, that's the expectation she'll have to meet to keep her job. What could possibly go wrong?

I thinks Floyd Williams and Larry Hardhat best tell their recruits that the Fighting Goats of Carrboro Tech is in trouble, especially after reading CS 3.7.4 of this document.

This is clearly not a time for measured responses, stonewalling, denial, avoidance, and other tactics favored by leadership at UNC's flagship institution.

The Carolina "Way" appears to have Marshall connections according to a recently published news story. The cesspool is getting more and more slimy as the days go by.
APNewsBreak: Documents detail Hawkins' payments in UNC case

HILLSBOROUGH, N.C. (AP) -- Newly unsealed documents in the case of an ex-college football player charged with violating North Carolina's sports agent law suggest he funneled money to multiple Tar Heels players and set up meetings with agents and financial advisers trying to sign them to contracts.
Christopher Hawkins was arrested in May for providing former player Robert Quinn thousands of dollars and helping him sell game-used equipment in 2010, along with improperly contacting a UNC player in 2013 to talk about representation.
According to five search warrants unsealed Friday and reviewed by The Associated Press, Hawkins acted as ''an agent/runner'' by befriending other athletes, providing illegal improper benefits and brokering meetings with agents and advisers despite not being registered as required by law.
The search warrants from the past year sought records for financial and online accounts for the former UNC and Marshall player in a 5-year-old Secretary of State's investigation, which began amid a 2010 NCAA probe into UNC's football program. Hawkins was barred from school athletes and facilities that year and is one of five charged.

What is the logic of this being a law
"agents and advisers despite not being registered as required by law."
Is that why the agent was arrested?

Re: The Carolina Way (Cont'd)
Now that's a suspension that will certainly get the attention of the other players ---
Less than two weeks after he was suspended following a misdemeanor arrest, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill corner Malik Simmons was back with his teammates Monday for the first practice of fall camp.
Simmons was suspended from all team activities on July 24 after he was arrested on Franklin Street in Chapel Hill.
Simmons was arrested at 1:46 a.m. on July 22 and charged with misdemeanor resisting arrest. He was released on a $1,000 secured bond. The arrest report indicated that Simmons, 21, was under the influence at the time of the incident.
The Lehigh Acres, Fla., native was also arrested May 16 in Orange County and charged with misdemeanor possession of marijuana. He was scheduled to be in court on both charges Monday, but he was instead at UNC's first fall practice, working with the second-team defense.
Head coach Larry Fedora said it was his decision to reinstate Simmons, a senior. Fedora said he will let the legal process run its course before dishing out any additional punishment.
Simmons appeared in 12 games for the Tar Heels last season, starting five. He has appeared in 36 games over the past three seasons at UNC, recording 86 tackles.

Suspended? Really?
How ludicrous! So this kid was suspended from "team activities" from July 22 - August 1? That's gotta hurt.

That should show the NCAA and SACS that UNC has no intention of changing. Meet the new boss, same as the old boss....Saint3333 wrote:http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nc ... k/2051041/

I'm reminded of the quote from Casablanca; "I am shocked, shocked, to find gambling going on here" as the dealer hands the Police Captain his winnings.

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill announced on Friday that its officials had reported additional potential violations to the NCAA that may implicate the women’s basketball and men’s soccer teams.

Cowards. They're just making sure they have no restrictions this basketball season. I always root against UNC, but this year even moreso than usual. That school does not deserve a national championship.

With the exception of talent basis, they never have.
