Mizzou FB to play @ MTSU
Just announced a 2-for-1 series - @ Missouri in '16 and '23, @ Middle Tenn. in '22.
Mizzou also plays @ A-State this year and has future road games at UConn, Wyoming and Memphis.
Surely they can do Gillin a solid for all his good work there and find room for a game in Boone somewhere?

ya I'm alittle surprised we haven't set something up the Mizzu, if not football, than some other sport. I mean, his AD, and all his assistants showed up in Boone when he officially accepted the job. He clearly left Mizzu in great standings with his former boss and the school.

We have a home wrestling match with Mizzou in February. Mizzou finished 4th in the 2015 NCAA wrestling championships, won the NCAA duals, and had an undefeated regular season. This is a big-time home match for the Apps.moehler wrote:ya I'm alittle surprised we haven't set something up the Mizzu, if not football, than some other sport. MTSU is in the suburbs of Nashville. Ark St. is an hour from Memphis. Several people have mentioned that ODU have been getting great home games.
Unfortunately, it will be a miracle for something like this to happen for App. The reason is simple: Boone. That doesn't necessarily mean travel either. By now, I'm sure people understand that a 60 minute drive from Hickory, 90 minutes from Tri-Cities or 2 hours from Charlotte really isn't that big of a deal.
But Boone and the surrounding area has zero appeal from a recruiting perspective for other schools. Norfolk/Tidewater have a history of producing great football players. The same can be said of the Memphis and Nashville areas as well.
If Doug Gillin is able to land a deal that has a major P5 school (and I am beyond thrilled about Wake!) like Mizzou playing in Boone then he should be elected as the next President of the United States.
For the record, I wouldn't change anything about our situation for a second. I'm proud of our school being in Boone and the high country. But this is a reality that we have to face. We can't hold Gillin accountable for landing a home game vs. an SEC school if it's going to be next to impossible.

51 Minutes without traffic according to Maps. Proximity to Nashvegas might have come into play, but I think a myriad of the above-mentioned factors got this done.APPARJ wrote:MTSU is in the suburbs of Nashville.
MTSU won't be landing many more SEC home games.

Re: Mizzou FB to play @ MTSU
I certainly understand the issue of Boone being remote recruiting territory, but then how does one explain Wyoming? And while Nashville has some players, it's not exactly south Florida in that regard. Connecticut isn't exactly overflowing with football talent either.
To be clear, I did not mean for my post to be interpreted as a shot at Gillin. I think he's doing a great job so far. His presence at App is the only reason I would even consider the possibility that Missouri might come to Boone, and even then only as a favor. Maybe just a little wishful thinking.

Re: Mizzou FB to play @ MTSU
question, how many p5 schools have traveled to Boise? I ask that because they have turned themselves into a top 10 program, almost every year, but like Boone, Boise isn't a hot bed for recruiting. Just wondering, if they struggle to get big programs to come to Boise, what chance do we have?

Did a quick search of their schedules since 2008 which is the year after they beat Oklahoma in the Fiesta Bowl.moehler wrote:question, how many p5 schools have traveled to Boise? Re: Mizzou FB to play @ MTSU
Boise St also has a stadium that seats 37,000
MTSU has one that seats 31,000
Wyoming seats 30,000
Yes, we are remote and that hurts but we also need 30k seats to have more leverage.

Re: Mizzou FB to play @ MTSU
Maybe you can explain this to me, because I often see this claim here, and I honestly don't understand how it works. If 30,000 fans are going to come to a game in Boone vs. in Laramie or Murfreesboro (and let's be clear - App's attendance is actually much higher than either of those places), what difference does it make to the visiting team whether they're all in seats or some are in temporary bleachers or lawn seating?AtlAppMan wrote:Boise St also has a stadium that seats 37,000

If the answer involves how many tickets we can allot the visiting team, couldn't we just give a bigger P5 more tickets than usual and not sell season tickets in the affected section(s)?

Well then you're talking about depriving and probably upsetting our fans for the sake of theirs. I think you know where that discussion would go.EastHallApp wrote: If the answer involves how many tickets we can allot the visiting team, couldn't we just give a bigger P5 more tickets than usual and not sell season tickets in the affected section(s)?

I'd point the discussion for our fans to buy season tickets.APPdiesel wrote:Well then you're talking about depriving and probably upsetting our fans for the sake of theirs. Some season tickets sold equates to demand for more seats.

I don't think it's depriving them that much - there are plenty of season tickets available in what are generally considered better sections of the stadium anyway. I'm sure some fans would be upset, but I think the fans who would be happy to see a big name come into KBS would far outweigh the few hurt feelings of fans who might "have" to sit closer to midfield.APPdiesel wrote: Well then you're talking about depriving and probably upsetting our fans for the sake of theirs. Here's our seating chart. As you can see, sections 108 and 109 are typically allotted to visitors. If we could land a home game with [insert big-name opponent of choice] by offering them, say, 208, 209 and possibly 210, I'm guessing that would be a big net positive for our program.
That's one of the challenges Gillin will face - he can't make everyone happy with every decision. He's going to have to make choices that are the biggest benefit for the program, even if some people have complaints about them.
