Two weeks off?

Unread post by ebapps1 » Sun Nov 18, 2012 9:27 am

What does everyone else think? I think it might actually be better for us to have a first round game instead of two weeks off. Our teams of the last few years have shown a propensity to come out flat and uninspired and get beaten by teams they should have won against, i.e. Maine and Villinova. I know the time off is good to let injuries heal, but sometimes too much time off is as bad as too little, look at the Detroit Tigers in the World Series this year. What say yee?

I really don't think there's any reason to worry. We need the rest and these guys don't want a repeat of Maine.

That said, this is going to be the best group of 20 teams ever in the FCS playoffs.

We need rest and recovery. Not sure how many players we need to get healthy but it seems like this year was one of being young and suffering through attrition. I'd really like to see a 100% JJ, not sure he was all season the way he hobbled around.

In other years, you raise a good point, but I'm of the belief we are so beat up, we need the extra, extra week. Plus, the loss to Villanova you speak of came after the win over Eastern Illinois. I think we lose to Maine regardless. That team was done, and would've had trouble beating Savannah State that day, much less a playoff team out of the CAA.

Definitely need the extra week this year IMO. #12 and both sides of the line will benefit from extra time to heal. Also have confidence in Coach Satterfield. The team was flat in the playoffs last couple of years, but that was before we got coach back. This is a better coached team. Lastly, Fuman still sucks, and I can't wait for the selection show today, hope we do get Richmond at home.

I want the extra week off. The possibility of having JJ in the line-up with the ability to really use his legs and Acey back on the line more than offsets the potential rust, in my opinion.

I also want UNH at The Rock, that looks like the best match-up for us.

The team hasn't exactly been firing on all cylinders so I don't really worry about them falling out of a rhythm. The season has been a war of attrition and the grind of playing eleven straight weeks has taken its toll. I think the layoff is the best thing that could happen. Those expecting an early exit from the playoffs could be in for a surprise.

Count me in the "Glad We Have 2 Weeks" camp. We played 11 straight weeks of football without a break...even NFL teams don't have to do that. If JJ's knee can heal, and we get some key injured guys back, we could look like a completely different team in the playoffs.

What is/was the severity of JJ's knee?

Badly bruised? Or menisci/mcl/pcl/acl?

If just badly bruised he should be 100% by Dec. 1, if any of the other (even slight strain) that's a problem that only off season and/or procedure can correct.

Purely a guess, but would say that the way he hurt it, just jamming it into the ground it would just mostly be bruised.

I KNOW Nothing....but I will guarantee you his (JJ) knee is more than bruised!

MANY times if the "tear" is complete...and this is pure speculation that he has a tear...the "player" if in really good physical condition and with GREAT leg strength. They can "play" for a while with the injury. I will not get any worse and if you can stand the discomfort you will not hurt it any more. Unless you injure something else....which would have been injured anyway!
