Re: Time to Welcome Coastal
Y'all just wait. CCU's ceiling may be higher than our own. The only thing they're clearly short on at this point is football support and facilities. With an immediate FBS investment those things will come along. Do you guys remember what Paulson Stadium looked like in person just 2 years ago? If the Stink can get their **** together that quickly I think the Chants can too.
Great for Belt baseball and basketball. Myrtle is a fun trip. I'm excited.

Re: Time to Welcome Coastal
They have certainly had much better success in basketball in recent years and they probably are superior in golf and tennis. They certainly have attained national status in baseball and soccer. Outside of FCS football, we really don't have any programs that have been or are nationally ranked. We had one good year of baseball but that seems pretty distant in light of the last several years. If Coastal were in the SBC right now, I would bet they would finish higher in the Bubas Cup than we would.moehler wrote:ya, I'm not willing to go that far, they are clearly better in baseball, no question, soccer also, but I'll take us in any other sport

Looking through the Big South website, CCU looks to field a decent track and field program. Their golf is good, and has potential to be great. Baseball has been a national power for some years. Recruiting to Myrtle Beach cannot be hard.
CCU has as much potential as their pocketbook will allow.

The potential invite was Eastern Kentucky University, located in Richmond, KY...ashugh wrote:The Spiders, Man. The Spiders. I don't even know what school is in Richmond, KY, but I assume you do and it must be EKU. Richmond, VA, man.
Not the University of Richmond Spiders located in Richmond, VA.

Focus guys, we're talking about Richmond, Kentucky...where Eastern Kentucky University is located.Appftw wrote:Richmond's stadium is the same size as Coastal's. This screams of desperation and is clearly the last scraping of the bottom of the barrel. Can't say I'm excited. JMU will rue the day.
As for JMU...their best bet is now to team up with Liberty and try to get into the MAC. That or partner with New Mexico State to hand deliver a nice Edible Arrangements fruit basket to Karl Benson's door with a 'sorry' note begging to be let in.

He must also lower his flags, and march straight back to England, stopping at every home to beg forgiveness for 100 years of theft, rape, and murder. He does that and his school can join the Sun Belt Conference. Do it not, and his school will be doomed to FCS status forever.APPdiesel wrote:Focus guys, we're talking about Richmond, Kentucky...where Eastern Kentucky University is located.Appftw wrote:Richmond's stadium is the same size as Coastal's. I'm not finished. Before they're able to join, their president must fly to the conference HQ in New Orleans, present himself before the member institutions, put his head between his legs, and kiss his own ass.
Re: Time to Welcome Coastal
We got a travel buddy! This is going to save us a ton of money and make our conference schedules much easier.

Benson doesn't have a vote, the Presidents vote. Also, if you're talking about the University of Richmond, they would laugh at a SBC invite.ashugh wrote:Richmond would have been sooooo much better. Benson sux. Should have worked harder to get a bigger, more established name and region. This is awful news.

Re: Time to Welcome Coastal
This is great. We get a weekend at myrtle beach every other year for the regular season and we get to go to a conference championship game and a bowl game. 14 games in one season. Awesome!

Re: Time to Welcome Coastal
Outside of JMU, this was the best available. We needed a travel partner and this is a very good fcs state school in a football hotbed. I personally hate Myrtle Beach but love this move for the conference.

CCU's attendance will be greatly helped when App and GaSo replace Presbyterian and Monmouth on their home football schedule...

I'm pretty happy with our newly formed "east" division. The west....could use a little work.

Re: Time to Welcome Coastal
This is a panicked and desparate move. The City of Richmond and their basketball AND football history is far greater than Myrtle Beach, SC. Virginia is the 10th largest state and Richmond is the Capital. It has an awesome downtown. My point was just to throw out alternatives. I'm not talking about frigggin Kentucky. Can you get past that, please?
But why the heII argue with folks who are excited about schools that have strong golf programs and getting the opportunity to go to Myrtle Beach? It's pointless.
What a joke and a total embarrassment for the Sun Belt.

You're right, it is pointless. Just like it's pointless to argue with someone that doesn't understand that Richmond (Spiders, man) has little to no interest in moving up to FBS, and if they had any interest, it is not in the Sun Belt.ashugh wrote:This is a panicked and desparate move. Just saying...it does go both ways.
EDIT: I will say this, I'm not sure how I feel about this add.
