That was my first App game attended as a student and I thought it was awesome. One suggestion I would have to the AD if I could speak to him would be to name the student section. For example The Boneyard at ECU, The Wolf's Den at State.

I love the sound of that. What would you suggest?

Some I came up with off the top of my head include "The Cave at App State", "Mountaineer Maniacs", or even "Yosef's Cabin".

I thought atmosphere was great for the first half and especially at the half for the HOF inductees. By the second half, the crowd started thinning out. Not sure how it was when the team came on the field or for kickoff, since I was stuck with half of the fans trying to get thru the gate. One thing I did notice in the APP - STATE cheer was that the cheerleaders were backwards. They were pointing at the visitor/east stands for App and at the home/west stands for State.

This is why I've always said, download an app that records decibals and hook it up to the video board. When the stadium hits certain decibals, everyone wins a biscuit or something. This will help to rebuild a culture of noise and pride.

I know in Reynolds Coliseum at NC State (when my dad went there) they had a fake meter that "measured" decibels. It was controlled by someone so that when the students got loud the controller could make the meter rise or drop. My dad said the controller would mess with the students and it only got the crowd louder and more into the game. Maybe App should do something like this.

I like that idea too. Anything to raise the noise levels and help get us back to where we were a few years back when it meant a bit more to come into the Rock and walk out with a W (for opponents).

Re: the App -- State cheer, the temporary EZ seating has effectively killed that one. It starts great, but ends up getting jumbled and people just give up. When I was a student we started it every game right as the kickoff unit was taking the field and the smoke from the fireworks was clearing. I'd like it to come back for that moment consistently and during timeouts like it used to.

We need more engagement from the old timers, but the culture of some of those expensive sections just doesn't doesn't allow it. They get loud on game-deciding plays in big games, but that's about all their weak hearts can take.

Ah, yes, let's offend the Alumni. Way to go, Gonzo! I am 100% certain that you will not achieve whatever you hoped to get by being offensive to those who are more intelligent, more experienced, wealthier, wiser, and better looking than you,

He's not really saying anything that isn't true.....maybe a little snarky with the "weak hearts" bit, but it's true that there is a lot of golf clapping going on in those sections. I've sat there and you most definitely get a few dozen hairy eyeballs if you dare stand up and cheer on defense if it's anything other than 3rd or 4th down.

Well I have been gone for a while but nothing has really changed.
The stadium is too small. The track is just too much to bear, just plain high school. The sound system sucks. The entrance does not give us chills like other schools do ( give us chills). The cameras are on the wrong side of the stadium. The field is worn out. The end zones are the wrong color ((they really are). We can't get in the gates. The place empties out at half time, and last but not least we have just too many old people in this place. They need to either jump up and make noise or get the heck out!!
But we are still having fun

Hey, I was trying to be just as snarky (smarmy, for the whine & jeez crowd) as he was. I thought I did that pretty well.

When we need to stand up & raise hell on something other than 3rd & 4th down, then I am certain we will. Last Saturday, there was no need to do that. The team had things well in hand. My guess is the GaSo game might provide such a chance. You can attend football games & behave the way you wish, as long as your behavior does not generate enough complaints to bring the Boone PD to your section. You may not, however, tell me how to behave during the same football game, until such time as my behavior affects those around me.

We had Mountaineer Maniacs named at basketball games for a number of years.

The last name App tried to name a student section, we got the Black Hole for basketball. So part of me wants to let it naturally happen.
