That function is still here:
I'm seeing the "Mark topics read" in each section of the message board, i.e. in the Football section and in the Basketball section. From experimenting, it seems they mark messages read just in that section, not across the board.

Can there be a "Mark topics read" in the Unread Posts section?

I will look into that - in the mean time, if you look at the main page "Mountaineer Message Board", right underneath the recent topics there's a button that says "Mark Forums Read". It will mark all unread topics read.

Given the fact I am dialing in on a 2400 baud modem I do appreciate the tweaks for faster loading. I am getting a page to load in 3 minutes now. :D

I hope that's sarcasm! The update should have sped up the loading and others have reported it's just like any other website at this point, not nearly as slow. I hope that's true for the majority of people now as opposed to the minority.

Yes, sarcasm. I was taking a step further back from CNN/SI board to some late 1980s tech.

I have noticed a HUGE difference in your changes and all for the better.

Haha good - I know what 2400 baud is - I was suggesting I hope its sarcasm that you're still on it! Thanks for the feedback - glad there's such a marked improvement. Carry on.

Yikes - no coming back from that unfortunately. As new posts are made it will fill up the recent unread topics block. If you are looking for topics that used to be in your recent topics, the best I can offer is to navigate to the individual forums and look at the topics near the top. Most recent topics right now are in the football folder. Sorry I can't be of any more assistance!

After using for a week, one thing I have noticed is the recently posted section, doesn't appear to continuously update. What I mean is if you don't "read" a thread it seems to stay on this list perpetually until you read or mark it read. This seems to keep other more active topics off the "unread" page. You may be working on this, but can these continually rotate based on the threads with the 5 most recent posts instead of "unread" for a particular user?

This was one feature I liked in the old version - allowed you to quickly check and get an idea of the current happenings.

Other than this the upgrade is working great for me.

I can absolutely change it back to show recent posts as opposed to unread recent if that's what people prefer. The unread posts you see that seemingly don't rotate are the most recent unread however. If other posts get posted on, they move to the top of your unread recent post box. They may not appear to have updated if either no one has posted since the last time you visited or people are only posting in the same 5 threads. Would you rather see the most recent posts up there that you've already read?

There is a link right underneath that block on the right that will mark all posts read. I have found it extremely useful to mark the forums read once I've read all the posts I want to read so that my recent post box continuously shows only posts I haven't passed over.

I have an idea. what if I create a new member ID and create a new tag name modifying my original ID.

You can do that and I can even give you your same username (we will delete your old name). You'll lose your history here though. Do you care about that?

Also - it will show every post from the beginning as unread. Do you want that as well?

Sounds like a plan to me. Let's make it happen.

Appreciate the clarification. No need to change just for me. I now see how it is updating. Thanks!

Ok - post on here with your new info so I know when you've registered and I'll change everything over.
