From what I watched yesterday, I expect App to run the table and only get token lip service talk about the Access Bowl slot. Heck I'm wondering if the Belt will even have enough bowl-eligible teams for its four slots.appbio91 wrote:This kind of day is why a Sun Belt team could run the table and not get a look for the access bowl.

Re: ODU Postgame Thread + [New B&G Podcast]
The play of Louisiana and Ark State in OOC games is really disappointing this year. I know they were down last year, but apparently that trend continues. They will still be dangerous, but I'm less nervous about the rematches than I was a week ago.
UL's loss to Kentucky is looking a little better since it appears Kentucky is decent this year. It is still a missed opportunity. Yesterday's loss to Toledo (being dominated) was ugly though. Clearly the Belt has a ways to go, but that's fine. All the talk of App contending for an Access Bowl bid is way premature anyway. We need to be focused on a conference title and then whatever Bowl we land in. It should be a great ride!

What a win. This is definitely one of the most talented teams we've ever had, we really don't have a glaring weakness right now it seems. Don't want to jinx it but this could be a special season. That was absolute dominance, we did whatever we wanted all day. I'm gonna make a prediction that Latrell Gibbs is gonna be one of the highest drafted players we've ever had.

The point was not that App has a shot at it, it is no one in the Sun Belt has a shot because of poor performance OOC. We are years away from getting taken serious enough to be in that discussion and I think everyone understands that.Yosef84 wrote:The play of Louisiana and Ark State in OOC games is really disappointing this year. Re: ODU Postgame Thread + [New B&G Podcast]
Let's face reality, even if we run the table and dominate every remaining opponent on our schedule, which is a real possibility, we will still not get an Access Bowl Invite. I think we are on a great upward track right now but the SB is so weak in OOC performance that our strength of schedule will kill us. I said at the beginning of the season that our only way would have been to take down Clemson AND dominate our remaining schedule to even be considered and that may not have been enough.
On the positive side, we look very good against every remaining opponent on our schedule. We have to stay focused and keep improving as we have a long ways to go but our guys seem to be doing all the right things at this point.

Sorry! I got a text during the game that the announcer during the beginning of the ASN broadcast kept saying "Tyler Lamb"APPARJ wrote:asu66 wrote:"Taylor (or Tyler) Lamb made an outstanding comeback from his 3 INT game vs. Clemson."
How can you be confused about Taylor's name? Did I miss the joke?
My brother thought he heard them call Ronald Blair "Ronald Brown" at one point.]
your brother was correct, he did say Ronald Brown

Re: ODU Postgame Thread + [New B&G Podcast]
We just have to focus on App and see where the chips fall. If we win enough quality OOC games for multiple years we can get into the conversation, but it will definitely be an uphill battle if the rest of the league doesn't improve. Who knows what the conference landscape will look like a fews years from now? The G5 could be vastly different in the future.

The announcers on the broadcast said Tyler several times.

As fans our hopes can be set on specific bowls, but our team's focus needs to be on winning the conference. That is all. We have to prove year in and year out we're the best team in the Sunbelt. I could care less about this bowl or that bowl. I want to win the Sunbelt...every...damn...year.I don't think we need to run the table to get a bowl bid.

Re: RE: Re: ODU Postgame Thread + [New B&G Podcast]
Yes, I understood the point and I agree. The Belt definitely needs to improve in order to provide a launching pad for any team to get serious consideration (and App needs to continue our improvement as well). My point is that, most people had tempered expectations when we moved up, understanding that we would hit some bumps in the road. Then App goes on a 6 game winning streak, and suddenly people are talking about what we need to do in order to get considered for the Access Bowl Bid. I understand (and share) the dream and optimism. I'm just saying that this is not a NEW reality. Nothing has really changed. I do believe the potential is there for App AND the SunBelt...but this season has been disappointing from a standpoint of conference performance. App and GS are currently propping up the conference.appbio91 wrote:The point was not that App has a shot at it, it is no one in the Sun Belt has a shot because of poor performance OOC.
