APP STATE / WYOMING WX TRENDS #3 THURSDAY
Not much of a change for the soggy sort of soaking scenario that will be taking place tonight through late Sunday / Early Monday for the High Country.
I can't recall a time where I've seen this sort of setup across the Southeast. Big upper level cut off low drifting South to Alabama, stationary front off the coast, Joaquin helping prime the tropical moisture pump, and high pressure to the North... it all equals a big rain potential for the High Country over the next 3 to 4 days. I don't expect Joaquin to make landfall along the Eastern USA at this point.
For areas inundated with rain already, flooding and landslide issues can't be ruled out as this all unfolds. If you are coming, (I still have plans to be there - but continue assessing the safety concerns) I would encourage you to travel the big roads and not take the more scenic routes to Boone and as you exit Boone.
So, homecoming this year is likely to go down as the "Water Bowl". I'll admit it, don't know that travel, to and from, is the best option for those coming from the flat lands to God's country. You are ultimately responsible for your own safety and that of your family members, or friends, who may be traveling with you.
Rain estimates for the Boone zone, over the 3-4 day period starting tonight, run anywhere from 7 to 10 or 12 inches of rain.
I will tell you, based on the modeling I am reviewing (and modeling has been ODU'esq of late) we might catch a break in the heavy stuff for the bulk of Saturday afternoon with the really heavy rain tapering off prior to 8 AM Saturday, and returning early to mid evening Saturday night. Periods of rain will still probably fall during the afternoon, but maybe not the BIG, BIG stuff. I hope this to be the case, so we can get in, get a victory and then get out and home safety.
As always....GO MOUNTAINEERS!

Thank you for all of the effort and attention that you've given to analyzing the massive amounts of data that's coming your way and to keeping your App Family informed about the conditions they're likely to encounter tonight and tomorrow. Awesome job!WXAPP wrote:Not much of a change for the soggy sort of soaking scenario that will be taking place tonight through late Sunday / Early Monday for the High Country.

YOu know there would be nothing wrong with moving the game up and hour or two and it would give people time to get home before it gets too dark.

WRAL just reported change in more of an easterly track of the Hurricane and that the worst of the rain for Raleigh will be from tonight through Friday night and that the worst parts of NC will be south and southwest. Maybe we will catch a break on Saturday from 3:30-7:00

Thanks all. Yeah, I don't see how we pull a rabbit out of the hat on this. I'm hopeful we catch a "window" of less rain for the bulk of the daylight hours. But, we'll just have to be prepared for anything. Mid 50s, gusty winds and rain... need to dress for dry and keeping warm. Hypothermia is no fun. I know of what I speak as I almost punched my ticket in my early teens from it. So, feet dry and warm.. head dry and warm.. and staying dry as much as possible.

WXAPP, you're a stone cold stud with your weather forecasts! Not that I have any options....I'm in Nashville and I'm headed to Boone tomorrow morning, but it's good to have a local, reliable weather source, so I know whether or not to wear rubber socks! Yhanks for the info!

We're day tripping from Durham in an SUV tomorrow morning. Heading back down post-game. Packing rain boots, poncho, snorkel, and beer.

Yep, WXAPP is the best! The canned forecasts are meaningless in the mountains. We all wait for his forecasts and plan accordingly.PikesPeakPoke wrote:WXAPP, you're a stone cold stud with your weather forecasts! Y'all be safe on your way over. We'll still be setting up tailgate shop at Stadium #76 and would be happy to have visitors from WYO join us.
